LONDON -- Former Bank of Scotland CEO Peter Burt was appointed chairman of ITV Plc. on Tuesday, beating out John Gardiner, chairman of grocery chain Tesco, ITV said Tuesday. Burt landed the post three weeks after the merger between Carlton and Granada was completed, creating the largest commercial broadcaster in the United Kingdom. The appointment of a chairman for the combined group has been fraught with tension since October, when a revolt of the company's largest shareholders -- led by Fidelity -- nixed giving then-Carlton chairman Michael Green the same job at the merged entity.
