An artist who also was an actor/dancer, his best known portrait was that of Judy Garland, which hung at the Palace Theatre for decades. It later was placed in the permanent collection of the Museum of the City of New York. Other legendary stars who collected his works included Shelley Winters, Debbie Reynolds and Ronald Reagan.

production of "A Connecticut Yankee," he was later given the lead role.
He also appeared on Broadway in "Sadie Thompson" and "Nellie Blye".
By age four he was appearing in vaudeville under the name of Jackie Hayes.
