Miracles do happen.
We’ve just witnessed one with the renewal of S.W.A.T, which was previously canceled by CBS.
Yes, that’s right, CBS announced today that it has renewed the hit drama series S.W.A.T. for the 2024-2025 season. The series will return for its eighth year on the Network.
Who had this on their bingo cards?
We’ve been riding for so long on the cancellation of popular shows on other networks — even after they’re renewed — that this news hits us like a shower of warm rose petals.
It’s concerning that during S.W.A.T. Season 7, many beloved characters have already said their goodbyes, so either they’ll be looking to walk that back or introduce us to a new team.
That’s a risky move for a series that had already been on the chopping block (and lost its head) once. Well, twice if you consider the original...

S.W.A.T. is not ending after all. Beating the odds a second time, the action drama has been renewed for the 2024-25 season, with Shemar Moore set to continue as star and executive producer. I hear Season 8 will consist of 22 episodes.
The news comes a year after S.W.A.T. was canceled before the decision was dramatically reversed a couple of days later with a renewal for a seventh and final season. This time, the network is not boxing itself in and is leaving the door open to more by not branding 8 as the series’ final season.
The surprise renewal, which sources said came down pretty quickly over the last couple of days, also comes as S.W.A.T is wrapping production on its seventh season. Moore hinted at the drama not necessarily ending by posting set photos on his Ig story yesterday with the caption “Season 7 finale will be [fire emoji],” not referring to the episode as series finale.

Turns out reports of “S.W.A.T’s” cancellation have been greatly exaggerated. CBS has renewed the cop drama for Season 8 despite announcing its seventh season would be its last nearly a year ago.
The latest drama marks the second time “S.W.A.T” has technically escaped cancellation, with CBS initially axing the show before announcing it would return for one last run. The original decision to cancel “S.W.A.T” came down to licensing fees. After Sony and CBS were unable to come to terms in 2023, the show was canceled, but they eventually worked out the deal for a final season with a reduced episode count.

After being canceled, then un-canceled, then producing what was billed as its final season, CBS’ Swat is getting yet another new lease on life.
The network has picked up an eighth season of crime drama starring Shemar Moore. The decision to continue the series, a co-production of Sony Pictures Television and CBS Studios, comes as a surprise: CBS has billed this season of Swat as its final one after negotiations with Sony over licensing fees and a reduced episode order. As recently as Monday, when CBS sent out its season finale dates, it was billing the May 17 episode of Swat as a “series finale.”
Now, though, the series is set to return in 2024-25, joining fellow CBS dramas Fire Country, NCIS, NCIS: Sydney, Tracker and all three members of the FBI franchise on next season’s roster (comedies Ghosts and The Neighborhood have also been renewed, and the second half...

We’ll be seeing more of Powell in the final season of S.W.A.T. Anna Enger Ritch, who has heavily recurred as the character since Season 5, has been promoted to series regular for the 7th and final season, Deadline has confirmed.
In the season 7 premiere, which airs February 16, the team heads to Mexico to escort a fugitive back to the States when things go awry and Hondo (Shemar Moore) has to save an old witness tied to the case.
Inspired by the television series and the feature film, S.W.A.T. stars Moore as a former Marine and locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Torn between loyalty to where he was raised and allegiance to his brothers in blue, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson strives to bridge the divide between his two worlds.

More good news for S.W.A.T. The series, which just got a renewal for a seventh and final season by CBS, also has a new streaming home. Netflix has made a substantial deal with lead studio Sony Pictures TV for the first five seasons of the action drama starring Shemar Moore, which will begin streaming in the U.S. on May 17. The current sixth season of the series is expected to join them on the platform in the fall.
As part of CBS’ deal for S.W.A.T. (and its other shows), current seasons of the network’s series are available on Paramount+ for their duration and a few months after they end their broadcast run. S.W.A.T.’s first three seasons are also currently on Hulu.

CBS’ drama Swat will live for one more season after the network reversed course on canceling the series.
Three days after announcing Swat would end with its sixth season, which wraps on May 19, the network on Monday picked up a final season. The series, a co-production between Sony Pictures TV and CBS Studios, will now get a seventh and final season on CBS. It will run for 13 episodes.
Swat would likely have gone down as the most watched network show to get the axe this season (Fox is saying goodbye to 911, which draws a larger audience, but that series will live on at ABC). The cancellation on Friday stirred outcry among the show’s viewers and star Shemar Moore, who called the move “a fucking mistake” in an Instagram video over the weekend.

Frank Darabont's harrowing and faith-shaking horror film "The Mist" doesn't look like other movies. It's not just the story's claustrophobic grocery store setting that makes the film's visuals distinctive, nor is it the eerie vision of a creepy, monster-addled mist that's transported straight from Stephen King's novella. No, "The Mist" features visuals that stand apart from its contemporaries thanks to its very mid-2000s secret weapon: the film used the same shooting crew as "The Shield."
Shawn Ryan's brutal small-screen masterpiece about the seemingly endless depths of corruption in a fictionalized Los Angeles police department ran for seven seasons on FX, and during that time, it gained a reputation for visuals that matched its ruthless, kinetic energy. In honor of the 15th anniversary of "The Mist," /Film's Eric Vespe compiled an oral history of the making of the film, and spoke with many cast and crew members...

And so am I!” Sigman indicated that she was happy with her work on the series “for the past 2 seasons (45 episodes),” and “thankful & proud of the strength this character gifted me…” and wished the show and her “Swat family the best moving forward…”

Phil Coulson will always live on in the hearts of Agents of Shield fans, but Clark Gregg is warming up to his new character, Sarge.
Clark Gregg has been playing Agent Philip J. Coulson for a decade now: five years in various Avengers movies and Marvel One Shots and five years in Marvel’s Agents of Shield. But throughout season 6 on ABC, we’ve come to enjoy Gregg’s performance depicting a new, less scrupulous character named Sarge, whose role has evolved from that of an outright antagonist to an adversary with a common enemy. We spoke to Gregg recently about how he made the transition to his new character on the show.
Den Of Geek: So was it difficult to let go of Phil Coulson?
Clark Gregg: We learned on Agents of Shield some time ago that everything’s on the table at all times...

TV has never been more beautiful, more daring, and more dramatic, and that’s owed to the new level of talent being given a chance to redefine what might be possible within this medium today. Since the dawn of the 21st century, we’ve witnessed an incredible array of directors (some native to TV, some fleeing the fluctuating feature film world) come to episodic storytelling to discover its potential.

Thanks to a brand spanking new official synopsis for Marvel's Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D. we now know exactly when to expect to meet Robbie Reyes, aka Ghost Rider. And the wait won't be long.
When fans initially heard that the premiere of the fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was titled "The Ghost," some thought it would have something to do with Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg). Turns out, that title has everything to do with Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna), and it looks like the character is going to loom very large this season.
But that's not all. Included in the official synopsis for the new season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is some interesting casting news. We've known for some time that Robbie's brother Gabe will be an important part of the story, but we didn't know who'd be playing him. Turns out that ABC tapped Fear The Walking Dead...

The Walking Dead season 6 delivers a tense, economically told Carol and Maggie bottle episode in The Same Boat...
This review contains spoilers.
6.13 The Same Boat
There's nothing quite like a good bottle episode. The Walking Dead is a show with a huge cast, and most of them don't get a lot of time to breathe, so episodes like The Same Boat, which separate a couple of cast members from the rest of the group and give them an opportunity to stretch their legs, tend to be a pretty welcome respite from the usual chaos of the normal Walking Dead episode. Some money is saved, and a couple of important characters get to be focused on for some much-needed character development.
Fortunately, this week's episode features one of the show's strongest characters and one of the characters that's been neglected since the move to Alexandria. Carol and Maggie,...

Rectify Season 2, Episode 8 – “The Great Destroyer”
Written by Scott Teems (story) & Ray McKinnon (teleplay)
Directed by Billy Gierhart
Episode 9 – “Until You’re Blue”
Written by Victoria Morrow & Scott Teems
Directed by Seith Mann
Episode 10 – “Unhinged”
Written by Ray McKinnon & Kate Powers
Directed by Stephen Gylenhall
(Note: as a primer for Rectify’s third season premiere, Randy revisited the final three episodes of season two.)
There’s nothing more important than family on Rectify - and I’m not just talking about Daniel Holden, or even the Holden family in general. The closing episodes of Rectify‘s haunting, beautiful second season are all about breaking down the various families of Paulie, be it the Holdens, the Willis’s, or even something more abstract, like the law enforcement characters, or the general population of Paulie. As Senator Roland Foulkes pushes and pushes to get Daniel’s case reopened, everyone in Georgia finds...

At one point in the third season of "Rectify," Amantha Holden is floundering her way through a team-building exercise at a management training seminar for her job. To help her out, the moderator suggests, "Why don't you tell us a story that only you can tell us?" Her story — about how older brother Daniel wound up on Death Row as a teenager, how she devoted her entire adult life to getting him released, succeeded through DNA evidence, and then saw him confess to the murder a second time to cut a plea deal, making her efforts and years into a joke — fits the letter of the suggestion, if not the spirit of the exercise, and it leaves the entire room speechless. "Rectify" itself doesn't exactly tell a story no one else on television could. Almost from the moment TV was born, the medium's been filled with stories of crimes, cops,...

Agents of Shield, Season 2, Episode 22: “Sos Part 2”
Written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen
Directed by Billy Gierhart
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC
Audiences should consider themselves warned that “Sos”, the two-part season 2 finale of Agents of Shield, does not mess around. Five named characters (plus two very unlucky Shield redshirts) die, Coulson loses his forearm like Ash from Evil Dead, and Simmons is dragged off, Drag Me to Hell-style, by that mysterious Kree stone. (Did the writers have a Sam Raimi marathon just before writing this episode?) A few storylines get resolved, like the May-Dr. Garner relationship and Cal protecting Skye, but there is also a lot of set-up for season 3 in the midst of this epic showdown between Shield and Jiaying. For everything it is setting up, however,...

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s two-part finale offered gigantic scale, future teases and a satisfying end to season 2…
This review contains spoilers.
2.21 & 2.22 S.O.S
Since I took over reviewing Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. a couple of months ago, analysing it more than I ever did as a just-for-fun viewer, I’ve realised one thing: this show really has improved. Even the episodes I’ve complained about seem like necessary evils when considering the big ballsy finale they were building to.
Indeed, it's with great relief that I can sit here and report that S.O.S. is a satisfying end to the season. It hasn’t always been the case, but S.O.S. truly felt like a Marvel Studios product. It was stuffed to the brim with interesting powers, engaging action and quip-happy characters, who even got some development. If you like Marvel movies, you’ll probably like this. It...

Agents of Shield, Season 2, Episode 11: “Aftershocks”
Written by Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon
Directed by Billy Gierhart
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC
The season two midseason finale, “What They Become”, was a bombshell in Agents of Shield, with Triplett and Whitehall dying, Skye and Raina transforming into super-powered Inhumans, and Bobbi and Mac not being completely honest with Coulson and the rest of the team. In “Aftershocks,” Shield and Hydra are both hurting. Hydra has a power vacuum with Whitehall gone, and Shield is fractured, fighting over Coulson’s decisions from their last mission. Even characters like Raina or Skye’s father, who are only looking out for themselves, are having a rough go of it, especially the former, who is in the post-transformation stage.
Agents of Shield is at its best when the team is unstable and the world around them is in upheaval. The tie-in...

Plot:
S.H.I.E.L.D. have found the location of the Mysterious City and attempt to enter it, only to find that it has it’s own defences. Meanwhile Raina is on the run from Hydra, who too want to find the City.
Verdict:
So we are now into the first part of the two part mid-season finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s second season and just like the last eight episodes that preceded it, this one blows the previous season’s out of the water (much like the majority of that season too).
So ‘Ye Who Enter Here’ starts off with another dream sequence, this time featuring Skye and though it certainly has some interesting moments and imagery (if you’re knowledgeable in your comic-lore, then it will give away a big reveal in the next episode), but it...
