The long national nightmare of “Medal of Honor” is finally over, or at least on reprieve for the time being: after bad marketing, dismal reviews, and a potential leak of classified information, Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore finally put the horse out to pasture.
In a conference call last month (caught by Polygon), Moore called the game “a miss,” explaining that “this one is behind us now. We are taking Medal of Honor out of the rotation.”
EA’s chief creative director Rich Hilleman has since come out to explain the series’ breakdown in a refreshingly frank interview. “It’s an execution problem. We don’t think Medal of Honor’s performance speaks to any particular bias in that space against modern settings or World War II or any of that,” he explains. “It’s much more that we had some things we should’ve done better.

Get ready to move as another Tier 1 Operator as EA and developer Danger Close drop a ton of info on the upcoming entry in the shooter series which is coming to the 360, PS3, and PC in October.
Coming to consoles and the PC on October 23rd, Moh Warfighter is a globe-spanning shooter written by Tier 1 Operators about a Tier 1 Operator named Preacher facing off against a military threat on the homefront. Interestingly, EA front loads the description of the story with details about the character's troubled return home after multiple deployments overseas, indicating, I suppose that Warfighter's plot will have at least a hint of domestic drama in between the gunplay.
If that whets your appetite and you decide to preorder the game, specifically the Limited Edition version, you'll unlock the U.S. Navy Seal Tier 1 Sniper, a multiplayer unlock available day one that EA touts would normally take 40 hours...

Medal of Honor executive producer Greg Goodrich has opened up about the controversy surrounding the 2010 release. The Electronic Arts employee told GamesMaster that the backlash the studio received over its decision to include the Taliban in the game almost forced his resignation. EA and developer Danger Close worked closely with Tier One soldiers during Medal of Honor's development, with Goodrich caught in clashes between "desires of a mega-publisher and those of a community of highly-trained killers". Goodrich said: "Having to deal with the secrecy of these communities, keeping their reputations intact and holding their livelihoods in the palm of my hand - not even having earned the right to yet... then having that break out. "There were a lot of things going on. There were (more)...

Following the announcement that EA are set to follow their excellent Medal of Honour reboot, the developers have confirmed that while the game will follow the exploits and real-life missions of Tier 1 Operatives, now infamously known as those who assassinated Osama Bin Laden, it will not feature a re-enactment of the mission as a playable level.
Producer Greg Goodrich of developers Danger Close told Oxm Us that there were no plans to attract the same kind of negative press that followed the initial decision to include the Taliban in the preceding title:
“That’s not our story to tell… That’s ‘family business’ to [the Tier 1 Operatives]. … It’s been an interesting exercise learning what’s okay and what’s not okay [to portray in the game].”
Details have emerged thanks to Oxm that the story will once again be based loosely on real events, and has been co-written by real operators between missions, with the emphasis and...

EA subsidiary Danger Close has confirmed that it is working on a sequel to Medal Of Honor. Posting on the game's official blog, executive producer Greg Goodrich revealed that strong sales of last year's series reboot led to EA fast-tracking a follow-up. "Yes, Danger Close is currently working on the next Medal of Honor," he wrote. "Just recently, EA announced that the reboot of Medal Of Honor was a big success with over 5 million copies sold. "We wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for supporting us, our new studio and (more)...

Electronic Arts has dropped the Taliban name used in the multiplayer aspect of Medal Of Honor. The Taliban, who were available to select in multiplayer matches, will be renamed the Opposing Force, after numerous complaints were made to EA about their inclusion. In a statement on the game's official site, executive producer Greg Goodrich said that the team had received lots of positive feedback about the game, before adding: "However, we have also received feedback from friends and families of fallen soldiers who have expressed concern over the inclusion of the Taliban in the multiplayer portion of our game. "This is a very important (more)...

EA's "Medal of Honor" reboot has been the subject of a very public debate this year over the game's option to let users play as Taliban fighters during multiplayer matches. Up until this point, the company's official responses have defended the move while trying to remain sympathetic to concerns from U.S. servicemen and women and their friends and families, but they've ultimately decided to eliminate the name Taliban from multiplayer confrontations.
"We've received notes from gamers, active military, and friends and family of servicemen and women currently deployed overseas," the game's executive producer Greg Goodrich in a statement on official "Medal of Honor" site. "The majority of this feedback has been overwhelmingly positive."
The negative responses won't result in a fundamental change to gameplay, according to the Goodrich, but they have led to an adjustment in faction designations.

Months after the controversy raged over the inclusion of the Taliban as a playable class in their upcoming Medal of Honor game, Electronic Arts has bowed to the pressure and will be renaming the Islamo-fundamentalist terrorist faction as Opposing Force. The statement in full follows:

Last month, EA announced that they would be incentivizing gamers to play more of their titles by offering in-game content and other bonuses through their Gun Club, but this week they just want to get more buyers pre-ordering "Medal of Honor," so they've rolled out a "Medal of Honor" Limited Edition package with exclusive access to the MP7 and launch-day access to the Toz-194 and 870MC2 shotguns, which otherwise need to be unlocked by leveling up.
"Access to a weapon like the MP7 will allow players to experience a tool developed with the Special Operations Community in mind," 'Medal of Honor' executive producer Greg Goodrich said in a press release. "With its light weight, high rate of fire and its ability to penetrate body armor, the MP7 handles like a pistol yet allows targets to be engaged like a rifle."

Electronic Arts has confirmed that the Medal Of Honor beta on Xbox 360 has yet to be given a release date. Executive producer Greg Goodrich thanked the players for their patience and said that the beta will be extended upon release to compensate for the delay. "As for the Xbox 360 version of the beta, we are delayed and we apologise. To the Xbox 360 community, we say thank you for your continued patience. We are working to fix the issues that have caused this delay and, like you, we’re eager to get the game up and running at quality," he said. "As soon (more)...

When Electronic Arts announced last December that its classic Medal Of Honor series was being rebooted with a modern setting, the strategy seemed a wise move. Over recent years, the first-person shooter franchise has lost significant ground to Activision's dominant Call Of Duty and EA's own Battlefield: Bad Company series. However, the setting of Afghanistan raised a few eyebrows due to the conflict's dogged fighting against a disparate Taliban and Al-Qaeda enemy, but also the fact that the war is still raging to this day. So Digital Spy had a look at a single-player mission from the game and talked to executive producer Greg Goodrich about Afghanistan, instruments of war and the return of Medal Of Honor. At EA's Spring Showcase in London, developer EA Los Angeles demonstrated a Us Army Ranger sequence from the game's main campaign (the (more)...

EA's focus on "making a great first person shooter" in an attempt to reclaim the Fps crown will be put to the test this fall. The "Medal of Honor" website has officially unveiled the release date for the series' relaunch, and the date to draw a target around on your calendar is October 12, unless of course you live in Europe, in which case you'll need to look ahead to October 15.
"Inspired by real people and real events, the game puts players in the boots of today’s warrior — from the infantry ground pounder to the Tier 1 Operator," "Medal of Honor" executive producer Greg Goodrich said in a press release. "We are proud of this piece because it offers a glimpse into the game we’re creating, while also showing the mindset of these warriors."
October 12 is now prominently displayed on MedalofHonor.com, where EA also has a new trailer set up.

EA has a lot of hurdles to leap with their reboot of the "Medal of Honor" franchise. After peaking with "Medal of Honor: Allied Assault," the series has fallen by the wayside in recent years with decent if forgettable releases. This year's reboot, titled "Medal of Honor" is an attempt to bring the franchise back to past glories.
I saw the game a couple weeks ago, when EA showed off a snippet of one of the missions in the game. The focus of this new "Medal of Honor" is on an elite group of soldiers known as Tier 1 operatives who use undercover tactics to infiltrate enemy targets, dressing and speaking like the locals in an effort to blend in before moving into action.
While this offers some unique presentation options (your fellow squad mates look more like Afghani goat herders than soldiers, for example), I didn't see much gameplay...

Electronic Arts has released the first details about the new modernized Medal of Honor game, which will be hitting stores next year.
Ditching the World War 2 setting, the game now takes place in modern-day Afghanistan. That fiesty lookin’ guy above in the header? He’s a Tier One Operator, who according to EA, is a “relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle.”
In case you think that sounds a bit “Rambo-Esque”, let me assure you – the Tier One are real people. The EA development team has been working with the special operations soldiers since early development of the game. Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer of Medal of Honor reboot, explains a little bit about them in the press release:
