- Born in Nice in 1891, Paul Gordeaux went up to Paris to make a career in journalism. Mission accomplished, since in the capital he became not only a columnist but the most Parisian of chroniclers. A pertinent drama critic and France Soir's literary editor, he popularized vertical comic strips. He also signed under his name or as Philippe d'Olon popular serials like "Les Amours célèbres" or "Le Crime ne paie pas", both of which he adapted for the screen.
