Actress Sophie Nelisse opened up her experience portraying Irena Gut in the drama Irena’s Vow in her new uInterview.
Irena’s Vow chronicles the real-life experience of Irene Gut Opdyke, a Polish nurse who gained international recognition for helping Polish Jews during World War II when she risked her life to save a dozen Jews in a German army major’s own home.
Nelisse, a star of the hit TV series Yellowjackets, remembered the preparation that went into perfecting her portrayal of the heroine. “There was a lot of research that came into play because obviously, Irena was a real-life woman,” she told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “I, first of all, had to do a lot of Polish accent work – I worked with a dialect coach to lock down the accent, and then worked to find a lot of archives about Irena – some photos, videos online of her in her 60s,...

Chad Ferrin, director of the outrageous fun Exorcism at 60,000 Feet follows up his 2020 foray into the world of H.P. Lovecraft, The Deep Ones, with The Old Ones – an even truer take on the work of Lovecraft than ever before, including the likes of Captain Marsh, Cthulhu and R’lyeh.
Speaking of Captain Marsh, The Old Ones sees two fishermen, Dan Gordon (Scott Vogel) and his son Gideon (Benjamin Philip), pull an old man out of the water. He turns out to be Marsh, who explains that he’s been kept alive for the past 93 years as a vessel of the Great Old One and then sacrificed to the same gods by the cult of worshippers – as seen in this film’s animated intro.

Actress Susan Sarandon is no longer represented by United Talent Agency following her comments amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war at a pro-Palestine rally.
Deadline first reported that Sarandon was dropped by agency UTA after making remarks at a pro-Palestine march in New York City. Sarandon is quoted as saying, “There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country, so often subjected to violence.”
The Oscar winner has shared pro-Palestinian remarks on social media, including from Pink Floyd rocker Roger Waters, who has been previously criticized for antisemitic remarks.
A UTA representative confirmed to IndieWire that Sarandon is no longer a client.

Pusillanimous. It’s a word with a nice sound to it, screenwriter Dan Gordon (“Wyatt Earp”) says, but it’s got a nasty definition: “Timid, cowardly, lacking in courage.” It’s the word Gordon uses to describe the Writers Guild of America West’s leadership, a guild from which he resigned October 23 after it initially stayed silent in response to the terrorist group Hamas’s surprise attack against Israel October 7. The result was the deadliest attack against Jews since the Holocaust.
Hollywood didn’t condemn Hamas all at once, but eventually all the major guilds, including the DGA and SAG-AFTRA, issued statements condemning the terrorist organization, which has ruled Gaza with an authoritarian hand since 2006. The WGA — at first — did not, even after holding a Zoom call with prominent showrunners who urged the guild to speak out. Dan Gordon, the screenwriter of “The Hurricane” and “Wyatt Earp,” resigned from the Writers Guild of America on Tuesday over the guild’s silence on the Hamas attacks on Israel.
A 56-year member of the union, Gordon is also a veteran of the Israel Defense Forces. He grew up in Israel and the U.S., and holds citizenship in both countries and in Canada.
He wrote a letter to WGA West leadership on Tuesday saying he will elect “financial core” status. In an interview, he noted that the guild had previously taken stands in support of Black Lives Matter and the #MeToo movement, and that its refusal to condemn the Hamas attacks is “appalling.”
“We had no trouble, as we should not have had, weighing in after George Floyd was killed. We had no problem, as we should not have had, weighing in on the #MeToo movement. No one said at the time,...

In the face of criticism, the Writers Guild of America West is explaining why it has so far not issued a statement on Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel — and decrying the “atrocities committed by Hamas.”
“The Guild’s decision not to issue a statement on the events of October 7th has caused pain within our membership that we did not intend,” top guild officers, including president Meredith Stiehm, vice president Michele Mulroney and secretary-treasurer Betsy Thomas, wrote WGA West members in an email on Tuesday. “We believe it is important to both explain our process and to attempt to rectify the situation, as well as to unequivocally state that antisemitism and Islamophobia have no place in this Guild.”
The officers explained that in the early days following the attacks, leaders were “horrified” but felt it was “outside the purview of a U.S. labor union representing writers to comment on it.

Dan Gordon, a 56-year member of the Writers Guild of America and reserve captain for the Israeli Defense Forces, published an open letter on Tuesday resigning from the union over its failure to condemn the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7.
“The failure of the Guild’s leadership to issue even the mildest condemnation of the worst massacre of a religious minority in the Middle East since Isis carried out similar atrocities against the Yezidis is appalling,” Gordon said in his letter. “It is corrosive to me as a writer and repugnant to every fiber of my being as a person of conscience.”
Gordon will assume “financial core” status, or “fi-core” for short. Those with fi-core status cannot vote in guild elections or receive other perks of full members, but still pay reduced dues and work under the same bargaining agreement terms as full members. Those who assume fi-core...

After weeks of outrage from members about its silence over the terror attack against Israel, the Writers Guild is finally speaking out.
“All of us in Guild leadership are horrified by the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th,” said WGA West boss Meredith Stiehm, VP Michele Mulroney and Treasurer Betsy Thomas in an email sent to members Tuesday morning.
Read the full WGA West letter below.
The surprise attacks left over 1,400 dead and hundreds taken hostage, with only four released so far in recent days. In response, with strong U.S. backing, Israel has hit Gaza repeatedly with heavy airstrike bombardments that have left thousands killed. Additionally, as the Idf amass on the border for an expected ground invasion, the government in Jerusalem has told Palestinians to evacuate Gaza City, creating a deeper humanitarian crisis.

Longtime Writers Guild member Dan Gordon is resigning over the union’s lack of public support for Israel.
“I am resigning my membership in the WGA West and electing financial core status because I no longer wish to be a fellow traveler with those who hide behind the fetid veil of a morally bankrupt wokeism and stand silent in the face of a fanatical ideology no less explicit in its genocidal intent toward the Jewish people than that of Nazi Germany,” The Hurricane screenwriter said Tuesday.
In a letter sent to WGA West brass Patrick Cannon and Ellen Stutzman, the Israeli-American writer and former Idf member added: “The failure of the Guild’s leadership to issue even the mildest condemnation of the worst massacre of a religious minority in the Middle East since Isis carried out similar atrocities against the Yezidis is appalling. A 56-year veteran of the Writers Guild of America West is becoming a Financial Core (Fi-Core) non-member over the union’s lack of official statement about Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel.
Dan Gordon, the writer of Wyatt Earp with Kevin Costner and The Hurricane with Denzel Washington, is intending to inform the WGA West on Tuesday that he is renouncing his membership as a result of the guild’s silence on the Oct. 7 assault on the country that killed 1,400 people, many of them civilians.

When Canadian director Louise Archambault shot her Holocaust drama Irena’s Vow — about a young woman’s heroism in hiding Polish Jews from Nazi occupiers – she faced present-day obstacles during production in Poland.
Archambault witnessed a makeshift refugee camp filled with Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s invasion of their country next to her hotel in Warsaw, and had to navigate a security cordon as U.S. President Joe Biden stayed in that same hotel in March 2022.
“I just wanted to go into my hotel room and I couldn’t get through because of so much security,” Archambault recalled after returning to her hotel after a morning of scouting new locations for Irena’s Vow, only to encounter vigilant Secret Service agents as she waved her room key card.
And visiting Warsaw’s main train station, which at the time was a major pit stop for millions of Ukrainian refugees, brought home the horrors of the Russian invasion.

There isn't a single historical figure of the 19th century whose life has been more mythologized via motion pictures than Wyatt Earp. Several great Westerns have been dedicated to his exploits. John Ford's "My Darling Clementine," John Sturges' "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," and George P. Cosmatos' "Tombstone" are widely considered the best of the bunch. As for Lawrence Kasdan's "Wyatt Earp," a three-hour, swing-for-the-bleachers epic that hit theaters six months after the release of "Tombstone," the consensus holds that it is a film in search of a greater purpose. It's the whole Earp story, but to what end?
One of the most fascinating facets of Earp's life is that he moved to Los Angeles, and served as a technical advisor on silent Westerns made by Tom Mix and John Ford. You'd think a cinephile like Kasdan would want to delve into this subject with antiheroic vigor,...

The film currently in production in Canada centers on basketball protege and egocentric Bilal Irving (Johnson-Hinds), who is asked by school principal Jules (Podemski) to serve as the assistant coach of his former high school team, the Dumont Warriors, alongside Coach Avery Schmidt (Clay). Bilal subsequently learns that true coaching involves far more than simply teaching the game. The question is, will this rag-tag team of misfits have what it takes to put aside their differences and become Warrior Strong?
Blasi will play Vicki, who runs the local diner and slowly helps Coach Schmidt out of grieving for his deceased wife, prompting him to move on with a new relationship.

We were going to begin this article by highlighting the unfortunate relevance of Daniel Gordon’s latest documentary The Australian Dream – which takes a harsh and barbed look at the aforementioned nation’s problem with race, through the eyes of Afl legend Adam Goodes, who was subject to vile abuse from the terraces. But then there’s never not been a time when this tale hasn’t been pertinent, which is why it’s a film – and dialogue – that needs to be seen, and discussed.
We had the pleasure of doing just that, with the film’s subject himself, Adam Goodes, as well as with the director Dan Gordon. You can watch fascinating and moving interviews with both, in their entirety below. We should add, these interviews were conducted prior to the murder of George Floyd.

With racism in sports front-page news in Britain, Dogwoof has scored all U.K. rights to “The Australian Dream,” the acclaimed feature documentary about Adam Goodes, an indigenous Australian rules football star who took on the racists. The film just had its local premiere at the BFI London Film Festival and will be released in U.K. movie theaters next year
Goodes twice won the Brownlow Medal, awarded to the fairest and best player in the Australian Football League, and was named Australian of the Year in 2014. Having spoken out about racism, he faced hostility from booing fans inside stadiums while playing and from some quarters of the media. He quietly retired in 2015.
Daniel Gordon (“Hillsborough”) directed the film, which was written by Australian journalist Stan Grant. It traces Goodes’ his meteoric rise in football through to his bowing out of the sport. Goodes is interviewed, and the film features archive footage.

Rambo: Last Blood is “not everyone’s cup of tea.” Or so says this newly-released promo for Sly Stallone’s latest (and potentially final?) big-screen appearance as the buff, gruff Vietnam war vet.
Embedded below, this stinger arrives after a pretty turbulent weekend for Last Blood, after critics lambasted the fifth Rambo movie as a cheap and gory revenge fantasy. Perhaps more troubling is the racist undertones of the film’s script, itself penned by Stallone, Matthew Cirulnick and Dan Gordon, which ships John Rambo south of the border to kill evil Mexicans – a premise so ill-conceived it left the character’s founding father, David Morrell, “embarrassed” to be associated with Rambo: Last Blood. Strong words, indeed.
Stallone is yet to respond at the time of writing, but he did, however, post a fresh promo for Last Blood which calls out those viewers who, ahem, “can’t handle Rambo.” The...

The way Dan Gordon, who has a story credit with Stallone on the fifth and supposedly final entry in the action movie franchise, tells it, he's pretty much a John Rambo lookalike after spending four decades as a battle-hardened elite soldier in the Israeli army.

A version of this story first appeared in the Oct. 10 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Screenwriter Dan Gordon has written high-octane action thrillers for the big screen including The Hurricane (about boxer Rubin Carter), Wyatt Earp and Passenger 57, but those pale in comparison to the real-life experiences he has had over the past 40 years as a member of the Israeli Defense Forces serving in six different wars. Gordon, 67, a U.S.-Israeli dual citizen, is still a member of the Israeli army reserves. He returned to the Middle East earlier this year as

Most people know of “Murder in the First” as one of the more serious films in the Kevin Bacon canon. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has returned to work following the death of his brother. The "Inception" star made a short video for his website hitRECord, thanking fans for their good wishes and assuring them he is gradually getting back to normal after his beloved older sibling Dan Gordon-Levitt, known as Burning Dan, died from a suspected drug overdose last month aged 36.
"It's been a while since I did a 'Regularity' video - life has been irregular," he said. "Thanks to everybody for all the love and support for Burning Dan, it means a lot. I'm going to start getting back to work gingerly."
While Joseph admitted he is unwilling to take on too many projects at the moment because he is still grieving, he did acknowledge that he is improving. He said, "To level with you, I still can't really handle the workload that I usually do, but I wanna start getting back to some projects.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is famous as the star of such hit movies as Inception and (500) Days of Summer, but his older brother, Dan Gordon-Levitt, who died this week at age 36, was a superstar in his own circle. Dan, (known as "Burning Dan" to his friends), is being remembered as an innovator and inspiration among those in the insular world of fire dancing, which he was passionate about. Dan was often seen spinning and twirling with fire at Flow Temple Arts School in Venice Beach, Calif., which he founded; at Renaissance Fairs, where he often worked; and at the annual arts festival Burning Man Project.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's brother was "surrounded by needles and syringes" when he died. Dan Gordon-Levitt, aged 36, passed away on Monday, October 4 and neighbors to the apartment in Hollywood where he was living were "not surprised" by his passing, suggesting his death was the result of drug abuse.
"Dan and his friends had been partying, and we were woken up with the girl screaming," one neighbor said. "She came running out to the front garden of their apartment and some people went out to help her. The paramedics were called, but he was found dead surrounded by needles and syringes."
"He had been living here on and off for the past few years, and he and his friends were not very popular to tell you the truth. One time they set a car on fire in front of the building, and there were always groups of people coming and going from that apartment.
