Langford’S Picks And Pans
Neighbours
Well, I’m glad Chris saw sense and went back to work, though I still think Lucas had nothing to apologize for. Yes, he should be sorry that Chris got his feelings hurt and that the customer was a homophobe, but Lucas himself didn’t do anything wrong. At least Lucas had the good sense to say that while he was sorry, he couldn’t promise not to screw up again or that something else like what went down might happen again.
At the end of the day though, I still think Chris overreacted by quitting. I understand that the show is sending the message that bigotry shouldn’t be tolerated. Obviously, it shouldn’t. However, life is gray, not black and white, and the answers just aren’t always so simple. In the real world you can't leave a job every time someone says something you don't like.

Emmerdale – What Do You Mean You’re Not Over Him Yet?
Has it really been three months since Jackson died? My, how time flies. And to the chagrin of a lot of fans, Aaron is still deeply grieving his boyfriend, even though it's very plausible and realistic. Many of them are ready for Aaron to move on and find a new boyfriend. If this were another soap, I would expect Aaron to already be in love again with someone new, as many shows tend zip through the grieving process.
But not only does Emmerdale move at a slow pace, it’s one of the more realistic soaps out there. I wouldn’t expect Aaron to have moved on so quickly, though I hope someday he does. Part of me fears Aaron will never have another serious boyfriend. Though I hope I’m wrong about that.

All That Matters
Florian got some bad news about Roman..
As I said last week, I can’t bring the clips of this storyline to you, but I did want to discuss it as it's an important arc for one of the most beloved TV gay couples. To begin, to my surprise, I’m really enjoying this storyline. Last week’s episodes detailing Roman's impending doom were terrific. The writing for this story has been unusually strong for this generally fluffy soap, and the acting is outstanding, especially by Igor Dolsgatschew, who plays Deniz.
The scene where Deniz begged Roman to tell Florian about his illness and then talked about his own feelings about losing the man he loves had me misting up as much as the actor. Dennis Grabosch as Roman was good, but I was really taken by his co-star's work. Dolsgatschew has...

Our members might be predominantly gay and bisexual men, but we do have a surprising number of female readers here at AfterElton.com. We value you ladies and feel bad that every year we have to ask you to sit out the Hot 100 voting (for that list we wanted a fair representation of whom gay and bi men find attractive).
To try and make up for it, every year we run a special poll exclusively our female readers, in which we ask them which gay/bi men they find hot.
This year over 12,000 votes were cast for over 600 different nominees. The top fifty appear here.
Without further ado... The 2010 Ladies' Choice Hot 50!

This week it's the Battle of the Network Gays overseas edition! With American TV on a bit of a hiatus we happily turn our attention to foreign programming. In particular, European gay soap characters. Thanks to our own Anthony Langford and Gays of Our Lives, readers can keep up with all the action on Emmerdale, Shameless, Forbidden Love, All That Matters and other shows - so now it's time to find out which popular characters/couples are nearest and dearest to your heart!
Emmerdale's' Aaron Livesy
Why? Actor Danny Miller has won rave reviews for playing this troubled (and often violent) gay teen. He won Gay of the week back in April for this gut-wrenching scene. He's currently pining for Jackson (the guy he almost went to prison for gay-bashing).
Shameless' Mickey Maguire
Why? You want to both laugh at and cry for the comically inept yet painfully lonely Mickey.

The winner of the 2010 AfterElton.com Hot 100 is …Ramin Setoodeh from Newsweek!
Just kidding. Truthfully, we can’t imagine anything less appealing than the attitudes expressed by this out gay journalist who recently argued, ridiculously, that gay actors can’t play straight roles.
So who did come out on top? If you’re the kind of person who opens your Christmas presents early, go here to find the start of the list.
The three of you left might be interested to know that the most noteworthy thing about this year’s list is that the top seven positions are occupied by out gay men, five of whom are actors; last year, only the top three were out gay men, and only four of the top ten were gay.
Of the entire list, 26 were out gay or bisexual men — up from 20 last year. And for those who really like statistics, our...

We asked you which gay or bisexual TV characters you think are the best, and you told us – with tens of thousands of votes cast.
Now we have the results.
But first, a few interesting statistics.
We have quite a few familiar faces – characters who made our last poll of the best gay and bisexual characters two and a half years ago – and a few missing ones, namely Vince D’Angelo (from Will & Grace), George Huang (from Law & Order: Svu), and Waylon Smithers (from The Simpsons), all of whom didn’t even make the top 50 this time around.
Meanwhile, we also have many new faces – from shows that have debuted since our last poll.
Every single character except two comes from a show that ran in the 00s (although some shows, like Will & Grace, did debut in the late 90s). The exceptions? Jodie Dallas, played by Billy Crystal, on Soap...

Welcome to another edition of Gays of Our Lives. This week in Gool Theater, we’ve got some very good clips from As the World Turns. And yet, the show still managed to annoy me. Am I just picky? Watch for yourself and see. Plus, Good Times, Bad Times (Dutch) starts an intriguing plot arc, Roman risks his life on All That Matters and One Life to Live continues to astound and amaze. Thankfully, it’s in a good way.
Gool Scoops And Spoilers has the dish on the new gay storyline on Emmerdale, Kyle and Oliver each make a commitment to Nick on One Life to Live, but can they keep their promises? Plus, Ravi comes to the defense of his sisters on Hollyoaks, Ian is trapped in a dicey situation on Shameless (U.S.), the kids from Glee make it to Sectionals in the final episode until – gasp!

In Gool Theater, find out if March’s debut was enough to get As The World Turns out of the doldrums and whether Syed and Christian go past the point of no return on EastEnders.
Scoops And Spoilers has the dish on the final episode of Kings and Ravi’s horrifying experience on Hollyoaks while Gool Newsbeat brings news that will give you insight on the Roman/Axel affair on All That Matters.
Plus, you’ll learn how bisexual actor Ferry Doedens feels about his role on Dutch soap Good Times, Bad Times.

We may be a predominantly gay male entertainment site, but we always try to look out for the ladies here at AfterElton.com. We felt bad that we had to ask our female readers to sit out the Hot 100 voting last month (for that list we wanted a fair representation of whom gay men find attractive), so to make up for it we ran a special poll just for the ladies in last week's Best.Gay.Week.Ever! We wanted to hear from our female readers about which gay men they find hot.
Call it The Ladies' Choice Hot 50. You'll find the results after the break!
If there's one thing women and gay men can agree on it seems to be Neil Patrick Harris, who headlines both the regular Hot 100 and this list. After some further Hot 100 similarities near the top (John Barrowman, Luke MacFarlane, etc.) things start to diverge considerably.

Before there was Forbidden Love’s Christian and Olli or As The World Turns’ Luke and Noah, there was All That Matters’ (Alles Was Zählt) wildly popular gay romance between Deniz Öztürk (Igor Dolgatschew) and Roman Wild (out actor Dennis Grabosch). While the sexy, steamy romance between Roman and Deniz ended long ago, fans still hope for a reunion between the couple. But will it ever happen?...

In The Spotlight – Degrassi: The Next Generation, Clara Sheller, and River City
This week we look at three very different series that hail from three different countries. But all have one thing in common: each tell interesting and intriguing stories about the lives and loves of gay men.
First up, Degrassi: The Next Generation and ‘The Life of Riley’.
Riley Stavros, played by Argiris Karras, is the long running Canadian teen drama’s latest entry in its much-lauded history of depicting the lives of gay characters. But two recent episodes clearly showed Riley is very different from Degrassi’s last gay character, Marco (out actor Adamo Ruggiero). Where Marco was openly gay and never struggled with his sexual identity, it’s been nothing but a constant battle for Riley. In fact, he hates being gay and desperately wishes things were different. But as we see in this first clip, he...

Degrassi: The Next Generation has a long history of prominent gay characters and this season is no exception. Earlier this year we met Riley Stavros, a teenager struggling with his sexuality, unable to accept that he is gay. With an episode featuring Riley set to air this week on The N, we decided to chat via e-mail with Argiris Karras, who plays the troubled young man, to get his thoughts on his role.

AfterElton.com: Tell us something about yourself. How old are you? Where are you from? What do you do for fun? What kind of music do you listen to?
Argiris Karras: I'm 19 years old and I was born in Toronto, Ontario, one of the greatest cities around!
For fun I often chill with my friends and do a whole bunch of random things such as play soccer and video games, watch movies and listen to music.

Getting To Know … Shameless
The love life of gay teenager Ian Gallagher (Gerard Kearns) on the U.K. series Shameless has never been easy. Whether it’s having to steal a bed just so he can have sex with his hot new boyfriend (somehow landing in prison because of it), trying to keep his ongoing affair with a married man a secret, or that fling with a homophobic drug dealer who has a strange sexual quirk (big surprise), something always comes along to make finding love (or just getting laid) a trying ordeal for poor Ian.

During Chroust's tenure as head writer at Fl he shepherded the internationally loved romance between Christian Mann (Thore Schölermann) and Olli Sabel (Jo Weil). We talked to the out writer via email about that storyline, as well as other plots and characters he enjoyed working on. We also asked him what he wished he could have done differently and lots more!
