The Greatest Brazilian Jiu-jitsu fighter in the world is looking to fight me.
“Put your hands up,” Rickson Gracie tells me as he advances. “Like you’re talking like an Italian.”
I raise my hands as he lunges toward my head.
“Don’t let me touch your face.”
Gracie — the 63-year-old legend with shorn hair and tanned skin — is wearing gray shorts and a black T-shirt. He’s muscular and compact. I’m taller, but that’s about it. He can choke me unconscious with little to no effort. His hands shoot out,...

Actor Frank Grillo can fight. When he's on-screen, he's bringing over 30 years of experience from wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, and boxing. He even trained with one of the greatest fighters of all time, Rickson Gracie, who's a master of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Grillo knows how to carry himself, which is why he's one of the more convincing action stars tearing up the screen these days.
Now, he's fighting to survive once again in another Joe Carnahan film, "Copshop." It's one of the many projects Carnahan and Grillo have produced together, and it'll be far from the last. The two are friends and collaborators,...

Independent studio Gunpowder & Sky has acquired worldwide rights to UFC 1: Origins of the Octagon, a documentary that traces the roots of the pro Mma league to its tumultuous first event in 1993. The Ultimate Fighting Championship film will get a fall release.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Gunpowder & Sky on bringing this stranger-than-fiction tale to life,” said producer Mike Tollin. “Director Mason Gordon captures the wild convergence of the world’s greatest gladiators in a truly epic battle. This is actually how UFC got started…”
From the producers of the Chicago Bulls doc The Last Dance, UFC 1: Origins of the Octagon explores the improbable tale of how Rorian Gracie, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist, and Art Davie, once a used-car salesman, teamed with Bob Meyrowitz’s pay-per-view company Seg to mount UFC 1 – the first fight in UFC history – in Denver and launch a sports phenomenon.

The WWE Network’s live feed went dark after Bret “The Hitman” Hart was attacked by a member of the crowd during his WWE Hall of Fame acceptance speech Saturday night, but footage is emerging showing the aftermath of the wild incident at the Barclays Center in New York.
The event was part of the weekend surrounding Sunday’s Wrestlemania 35. Hart was inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame along with his original Hart Foundation tag-team partner Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. Neidhart, who died last year, was repped by his daughter Natalya.
Bret and Natalya were at the podium inside the wrestling ring when the attacker, Zachary Madsen, jumped into the ring and tackled Hart to the ground. In an arena full of pro wrestlers, it wasn’t long before Madsen was subdued.
Here are a couple angles from the incident:

Brazilian jiu-jitsu will get its origin story told by José Padilha, the filmmaker behind the police thriller Elite Squad and Netflix’s crime drama Narcos.
Padilha will direct Dead or Alive, which is being made by Netflix, and will write the script with Peter Maguire. Padilha will also produce the period feature with Greg Silverman and his Stampede banner.

"Is it worth it to sacrifice one's mind and body for sport?" The first teaser trailer has debuted online for a documentary called The Hurt Business, from director Vlad Yudin (of Generation Iron), taking a look at Mma and the superstars of mixed martial arts. It's narrated by Kevin Costner and profiles the lives of a couple of major competitors, including Ronda Rousey and Jon Jones. The descriptions says it discusses the theme of injuries "both mental and physical" within Mma, and it also looks at just how dedicated these athletes are to this popular sport. Other great Mma docs include The Smashing Machine, Rickson Gracie: Choke, and Like Water about fighter Anderson Silva. Even if you're not a fan of Mma, this is worth a look. Here's the first trailer for Vlad Yudin's documentary The Hurt Business, direct from YouTube: From the producers of Bowling for Columbine,...

Director(s): Ryan Page & Christopher Pomerenke Writer(s): Maynard James Keenan, Ryan Page, Christopher Pomerenke Starring: Maynard James Keenan, Eric Glomski, Milla Jovovich, Patton Oswalt, Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Tim Alexander, Bob Odenkirk Before I get started, I should probably set the record straight; I had no idea who Maynard James Keenan was prior to watching Blood Into Wine. So for the other Tool-deprived souls out there, allow me to summarize: Maynard James Keenan fronts Tool, a multi-platinum metal (a term I am using very loosely) band that formed in 1990. Tool has released four studio albums since its 1993 debut, Undertow. Keenan also fronts the supergroup A Perfect Circle (which has released three albums to date) and Puscifer (a side project, which released its first studio album in October 2007). Keenan is also a winemaker, former Army cadet, comedian (he is featured in a couple Mr. Show cameos – the...
