While Ryan Kelley made a strong first impression when he starred alongside Sigourney Weaver as the suicidal Bobby Griffith in the heartbreaking TV movie Prayers For Bobby, he stirred us up in an entirely different way from his first appearance last season on MTV’s werewolf drama, Teen Wolf.
And for those of you who said last year that you wanted to see more of Kelley’s Deputy Parrish, the fourth season, which kicks off tonight, is going to deliver just that. Not only is Parrish going to be more involved with the adventures of Scott (Tyler Posey), Stiles (Dylan O’Brien), Derek (Tyler Hoechlin), Lydia (Holland Roden) and new series regulars Kira (Arden Cho) and Malia (Shelley Hennig), but the young Deputy may also find himself with a love interest of his own.
Kelley’s road to Teen Wolf is a long one, as he’ll tell us, but out series creator Jeff Davis,...

Joan Allen, 'Georgia O'Keeffe'When you need a figure of strength and stamina stoically overcoming difficult odds, Joan Allen is the go-to lady. Whether trying to keep Matt Damon's character in line in the "Bourne" films, beating back a political smear campaign in "The Contender," surviving a colonial witch-hunt in "The Crucible," or dealing with alcoholism and the president's corruption in "Nixon"—a losing battle in that case, but still a valiant effort—her characters fight with steely determination and quiet but unshakable resolve. As the title figure in the Lifetime biopic "Georgia O'Keeffe," Allen musters her considerable forces, allowing the great artist to overcome prejudice, sexism, and even the overbearing personality of her husband—photographer and gallery owner Alfred Steiglitz (fellow SAG Award nominee Jeremy Irons)—to realize her individual vision. It's a deceptively subtle performance, with few outbursts of emotion. Most of Allen's scenes involve O'Keeffe reveling in the New Mexico landscape,...

In 1983 Bobby Griffith died instantly when he threw himself off a freeway overpass in Portland, Oregon. He could not reconcile his self-loathing and his religious mother's fiercely determined quest to heal his homosexuality through the Bible. It took Bobby's tragedy for his mother, Mary Griffith, to understand that it was not Bobby that needed to be fixed, but blind adherence to flawed biblical interpretations. His death led her to renounce her homophobia and fundamentalism and become a steadfast advocate for Lgbt rights and education. Over 25 years later, Leroy Aaron's penned book, Prayers for Bobby, has become a Lifetime Movie honored with two of the highest Emmy Award Nominations: Best Made for TV Film and a Best Actress nomination for Sigourney Weaver. Weaver portrays Mary Griffith with a depth of love and compassion that calls us to...

Scott Bailey
Being as how our hearts are about as soft as cashew brittle, it's not often that something comes along that warms us up enough to tease a gentle "Awwww..." from our lips.
But when actor Scott Bailey's publicist sent us an essay that he'd written about his experience playing the boyfriend of Bobby Griffith in the true-life tearjerker Prayers for Bobby, that's pretty much what happened.
I was originally going to excerpt the essay here for you to read, but I'm actually posting it in its entirety below, because it's kinda too precious for words.
Prayers For Bobby: A Once In A Lifetime Experience.
Yes, Prayers for Bobby will air on Lifetime starting Jan 24th but the title is more than just clever wordplay: it is my heartfelt truth! It feels like a miracle that such a timely and meaningful film has come to fruition and...

Sigourney Weaver hopes her first TV movie will help gay teens come out to their parents.
In Prayers for Bobby, the Alien star plays the real-life mother of tragic gay youth Bobby Griffith, who committed suicide in the 1970s after his religious parents spent years trying to 'cure' him.
Weaver claims Leroy Aaron's book of the same name, from which her new film was adapted, has become a tool some gay youngsters use to help their parents come to terms with their child's sexuality - and she hopes her movie also helps.
She tells TV Guide magazine, "Prayers For Bobby is the book kids give their parents when they come out. This (film) will be another way for them to sit down with your family and say, 'I have something to talk to you about. Let's watch a Sigourney Weaver movie.'
"There are no aliens in it, there are no ghostbusters, but it gets them in the room."
Weaver visited Mary Griffith, who she portrays in the film, and admits it was a very emotional day.
She adds, "You feel Bobby's presence in their house."
And the actress is impressed with the woman her character has become in real life.
She explains, "They (family) thought that they were doing the right thing - they felt they were saving him and his soul.
"She (Griffith) goes from thinking Bobby's death is God's will to feeling responsible, and finally talking to parents so they won't lose their gay children to this kind of terrible ignorance."...
