Author Renée Watson’s award-winning book “Piecing Me Together” has been optioned for a film adaptation.
Variety has learned that Warner Horizon is set to adapt the New York Times-bestselling novel. Watson will serve as a consultant on the project, which is in the early stages of development.
“Piecing Me Together” centers on Jade, a 16-year-old Black girl who attends a mostly white private school on a scholarship. The young adult novel — which explores themes of race, privilege, friendships, identity and other issues facing young women — follows Jade as she strives to escape her low-income neighborhood and achieve success.
The novel was published in 2017 by Bloomsbury Children’s Books, debuting in the top 10 on the New York Times Young Adult Hardcover list. The following year, the novel was awarded the John Newbery honor, and Watson received the Coretta Scott King Author Award.

SAG-aftra applauded a federal court ruling that resurrected a suit by a former college football player against video game publisher Electronic Arts. The union, which believes the suit could help its members retain control over the commercial use of their images, said it was "very gratified" the Third Circuit Court of Appeals allowed Ryan Hart's suit to move forward. "SAG-aftra is very gratified by the Third Circuit decision in Hart v. Electronic Arts, which respects the creative and expressive nature of video games while also recognizing the need for proper balancing of speech rights with the rights of individuals to control the commercial use of their own image and likeness," Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-aftra's chief administrative officer and general counsel, said in a statement. "In particular, the clear and unambiguous adoption of the transformative use test by the Court should lay the groundwork for the establishment of a consistent...

In a ruling that some in the entertainment industry are going to love and others are going to hate, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals revived former Rutgers Qb Ryan Hart's lawsuit against Electronic Arts for allegedly violating his publicity rights in the video game "Ncaa Football." Hart played at Rutgers from 2002 to 2005 and objected to EA's video game which let users go into "dynasty mode" and control digital avatars that bore strong resemblance to real-life counterparts. The case tested the balance between an individual's right to protect their likeness from commercial exploitation and an entertainment

EA Sports has won a court victory after a lawsuit was filed against the company by ex-Rutgers University quarterback Ryan Hart. Hart accused the studio of using his likeness in Ncaa Football without his permission, and took legal action against them. Us district court judge Freda Wolfson ruled in favour of Electronic Arts, stating that the firm was within its First Amendment rights of free expression, as Hart's likeness was based on physical appearance and stats, rather than his name, Reuters reports. EA's lawyer Elizabeth McNamara issued a statement saying that (more)...

Director: Mikael Hafström. Review: Ryan Hart. Anthony Hopkins dons his dog collar for some exorcising shenanigans in Mikael Håfström’s The Rite, and like any good (horror?) thriller with a religious theme it of course moves ultimately towards a showdown between those good old favourites….. good vs Evil. Inspired by true (yes another one) events ‘The Rite’ follows sceptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith. The Rite was a little bit slow to get going, but once it finally does get up to speed, it just about manages to conjure up a spooky and unsettled feel. There are some genuinely creepy moments throughout the film, but if I’m honest they are too few to make proceedings hugely suspenseful.

A gamer in Hull, Yorkshire has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest ever winning streak on Capcom's Street Fighter IV. On March 27 at the Gamestation store in Hull's Prospect Centre, official European Sfiv champion Ryan Hart beat 169 challengers on the fighting game over a four-hour period to smash the previous record of 61.
