Moto Hata, a sculptor who worked with the biggest studios in the industry and contributed to several blockbuster films, died July 9 in Los Angeles of cancer-related causes, according to colleagues. He was 47. Hata, a native of Osaka, Japan, studied effects at Screaming Mad George.s Los Angeles shop and honed his skills in the studios of Rob Bottin, Stan Winston, Steve Johnson, Mike Elizalde and Rick Baker, among others.
