Mad Men is one of those shows that you often see people complimenting and raving about, but I never really got into it. It may be a strange thing to do but now it is in its final season I gave in. Watching Mad Men: The Final Season Part 1 with little knowledge of the complete series may be a little silly, but all good shows should invite new viewers to them, no matter how deep into the story they are. If it is as good as people say, hell I can just catch up with the rest later on.
At the start of the final season Don Draper (Jon Hamm) is fighting his way back into the agency while other partners most notably Jim Cutler (Harry Hamlin) fights to finally remove him from the company. As Don tows the line and gets his work done a new computer is...

Allan Havey self-identifies as a Mad Men superfan, so he doesn’t care if most of you want to push the cardigan-wearing Lou Avery out a window. Lou was given a gentle spanking by Jim Cutler in Sunday’s mid-season finale, and will potentially be sent on his way if and when the firm is officially acquired by McCann Erickson. If that’s not good enough for haters, too bad! Vulture talked to the actor and stand-up comedian, who last appeared in the final season of The Office, about Lou’s many redeeming qualities, his very specific way of geeking out on set, and the time he filmed a very special episode of Louie. What did you think about Cutler dismissing Lou as a hired hand?I suspected something was coming from above. Cutler’s the only guy [who] could ream Lou out, so it didn’t surprise me and I...

Mad Men returned on Sunday night with Don still in his precarious position at the ad firm he helped build. His successor as the head of creative, Lou Avery, is as intent as ever to get Don out of the picture.
Mad Men Recap
Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) has been hard at work on the Burger Chef campaign, which Lou Avery (Allan Havey) is using as a way of cutting Don’s (Jon Hamm) legs out from under him. Now that Peggy feels confident that she has a solid pitch, Pete flies in to hear her presentation with Bonnie Whiteside (Jessy Schram) in tow. Lou is surprised to see Don walk into the meeting, but Pete (Vincent Kartheiser) explains that not only does he want Don in on the meeting, but he’s going to want him to make the official pitch to Burger Chef. At the start of Mad Men’s "The Runaways," Don Draper is being the model employee, doing as he’s told by Peggy and Lou Avery, contributing his ideas to both the Burger Chef and Handiwrap campaigns. Furthermore, his marriage to Megan seems like it could be improving again.
Mad Men Recap
In a week, Don (Jon Hamm) is scheduled to fly out to California to see Megan (Jessica Pare), but a phone call forces him to bump the flight up a week. When he receives a phone call from the niece of Anna Draper (wife of the first/real Don Draper) who says she’s pregnant and homeless, he’s determined to help her. Don tells her to go to Megan’s address in Laurel Canyon and that’ll he’ll meet her there by day’s end.

In just a few brief scenes, Mad Men's Lou Avery has become one of the most hated characters on TV.
After taking over as Sterling Cooper & Partners' creative director in the wake of Don Draper's meltdown and suspension, Lou (Allan Havey), quickly made his presence felt. Although Lou isn't bogged down by a host of personal problems like Don (Jon Hamm) is, he's a bit of a square and lacks Don's creative spark, which almost instantly put him at odds with Draper protégé Peggy (Elisabeth Moss). Making matters worse...

The path to the Iron Throne is a treacherous one, but at least on Sunday night TV, the late, unlamented Joffrey Baratheon already has a villainous successor. Mad Men's Lou Avery (played by Allan Havey) may be taking up space in Don Draper's corner office, but he's come nowhere near filling his shoes. In the Season Seven premiere, "Time Zones," Lou revealed himself to be a smug, complacent hack whose dismissive treatment of Peggy and Dawn reeked of casual sexism and racism. (Anyone who thought Dawn was happier with her new,...

Mad Men episode “A Day’s Work” honed in on Peggy's Valentine’s Day woes and Don Draper's efforts to get back in the ad game and attempt to finally open up to his daughter Sally.
Mad Men Recap
Don Draper (John Hamm), still on hiatus from Sterling Cooper & Partners, prepares for an 8 p.m. meeting by sleeping till noon, watching some Little Rascals, eating crackers and casually sipping some booze. It turns out his meeting is with Dawn (Teyonah Parris) from the office. She lets Don in on the action between the firm and Lou Avery’s (Allan Havey) dealings with Mohawk Airlines. After the meeting it seems like Don is more eager than ever to get back to work and stop getting information through Dawn and pitching through Freddie Rumsen (Joel Murray).
Trying to forget about her ex, Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) decides to throw herself entirely into her work.

Don Draper has flown to California and lies on a couch with his wife, Megan, sprawled next to him. Eyes dazed, he looks toward the television as Frank Capra’s 1937 film Lost Horizon begins. The on-screen script reads, “In these days of wars and rumors of wars – haven’t you ever dreamt of a place where there was peace and security, where living was not a struggle but a lasting delight?” Don becomes alert, more so when the page on the television flips to new text. “Of course you have,” it states. “So has every man since Time began.”

Mad Men began its final season Sunday on AMC with a somber, even opaque episode that was probably a case of holding its final hand close to the vest. You hope there are some sensational cards there. Creator Matthew Weiner, whose baby this is, can be sensational or sensationally drab, exactly as he chooses. The show's integrity is unmatched, admirable and every so often deeply irritating. At any rate, I think it will be awhile before anyone sings "Zou Bisou Bisou" again. Last season ended with Don Draper (Jon Hamm) suffering a meltdown and/or moment of scorched-earth truthiness at a major presentation.

The second episode of the third season of Louie returned to its usual format of two stories per episode. The first segment was comprised of a charming mix of Louie eating with his daughters while they told him, their father and arguably the top comedian on the planet at the moment, knock-knock jokes and performing stand-up surrounding said jokes. Louie is a great show because it takes moments that other shows would not hesitate to exploit in the cheapest, easiest, most saccharine and universally translatable way and plays them honestly which is why they retain all of their value yet still work successfully without making anyone’s eyes roll. Not only did Louie’s stand-up highlight and multiply the genuine humor inherent in one of his daughter’s jokes about the appropriate personnel deciding not to let a gorilla into a ballet performance, but the scene...

It's not that anyone necessarily doubted Melissa Leo could be funny, it's just that the Oscar-winning actress hasn't really needed to be -- her recent career's been defined by roles that have been fierce ("The Fighter"), frightening ("Red State"), warm ("Treme") and desperate ("Frozen River"), but not funny. But as Laurie, the landscaping company owner set up at a dinner party with Louis C.K.'s Louie on last night's episode, Leo's is gruffly hilarious and unsettling, upending gender expectations while physically manhandling the "Louie" protagonist into a hook-up. The pair's eventual fooling around in Laurie's truck is itself the kind of turnaround the show has come to specialize in -- a subversion of the expected trope of the reluctant blind date turning out to not be so bad after all. That's the apparent initial scenario of "Telling Jokes/Set Up," which finds comic Allan Havey,...

Louie, Season 3, Episode 2: “Telling Jokes / Set Up”

Directed by Louis Ck
Airs Thursdays at 10:30pm Et on FX
Louie is one of the only shows running right now that allows for easy access for newcomers. For the most part, it eschews serialization, toys with tone and format on an almost weekly basis, and generally revolves more around one-off ideas than gradually built thematic throughlines. With that said, “Telling Jokes / Set Up” does feature some neat continuations, payoffs and easter eggs for longtime viewers, or even anyone who happened to tune in last week. For starters, he’s still got the motorcycle, which is a bit of a surprise considering how “Something’s Gone Wrong” ended that particular adventure. More significantly, this week marks the return of Louie’s two daughters, who are once again played by Season 2′s (wonderful) Hadley Delany and Ursula Parker.

Chicago – Steven Soderbergh is arguably the most important American filmmaker working today and his “The Informant!” with Matt Damon, just released on Blu-ray and DVD, is a great piece of evidence to support that argument. He continues to bring traditional stories to life in continuously unique, interesting ways.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.5/5.0
The story of “The Informant!” is one familiar to audiences, especially from a director who tackled the toppling of a corrupt Midwestern company by a little person before in “Erin Brockovich”. Erin and Mark Whitacre (Damon) couldn’t have less in common. One was a heroine. The other was a moron.
The Informant! was released on Blu-ray and DVD on February 23rd, 2010.
Photo credit: Warner Brothers Home Video
Mark is a typical Midwestern schlub with a loving wife (Melanie Lynskey), two kids, a nice home, and a very good job at Archer Daniels Midland monitoring Lysine pricing and its possible damage on the environment.
