Nearly three years ago, director Seth Gordon (The King of Kong, Four Christmases) was going to direct an adaptation of Frank Portman's novel King Dork, a story about a frustrated song-writer and high school student named Tom Henderson who finds his dead father's copy of The Catcher in the Rye, and his life changes forever. However, more than that, the film is said to really be about friends who find a special bond through their love of some truly great rock and roll music. Now Deadline reports it will be Matt Piedmont (making his directorial debut with Casa de mi Padre in theaters next week) at the helm of the adaptation. Here's a more detailed synopsis of the book: Tom Henderson (a.k.a. King Dork, Chi-mo, Hender-fag, and Sheepie) is a typical American high school loser until he discovers the book, The Catcher in the Rye, that will...

In Frank Portman‘s debut novel from 2006, the song-writing, classic Rock-loving high school loser Tom Henderson has a lot of nicknames. King Dork is one of them, but it might be the most important (which is what made it such a great choice for the title). When Tom discovers his dead father’s “Catcher in the Rye,” it changes everything for the crazier, but it might be the ticket to conspiracies and the holy grail of high school hormones. The book is now being turned into a movie by Gary Sanchez Productions, and the team of Adam McKay and Will Ferrell have hired on director Matt Piedmont to helm the project after teaming with him on the forthcoming Casa de mi Padre. According to Deadline Suburb of Detroit, this was the first project that Gary Sanchez bought when McKay, Ferrell and Chris Henchy founded it. It’s a cool project, and...

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, through their Gary Sanchez production company, have been trying to get King Dork up and running for six years. Studios and directors have come and gone, but it's now finally underway, with Casa De Mi Padre's Matt Piedmont at the helm.Ferrell and co. picked up the option on Frank Portman's novel in 2006, and it was initially in development at Paramount. Three years later it drifted to Sony, with Seth Gordon attached. Clearly the relationships formed on Casa De Mi Padre were the charm though, and King Dork is now moving forward as an indie. The book revolves around school misfit Tom Henderson, the mysterious death of his father, and the life-changing discovery of Jd Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye. This leads, the blurb tells us, to "several interlocking conspiracies involving dead people, naked people, fake people, Esp, blood, a secret code,...
