As we creep along to the midway point of Summer, this can only mean one thing at the multiplex (aside from added matinees): another installment of a big studio franchise (formerly a series) will be occupying several screens. We’ve already had a new Alien, and another Depp pirate pic as the Planet Apes and Transformers wait in the wings, along with that wall-crawling wonder. I suppose we’re due for an animated sequel, but this one’s from the most celebrated studio of the last couple of decades, Pixar. Aside from Toy Story, they avoided follow-ups to their other hit films until 2011 when the Cars gang refueled for Cars 2. Then one of the other hits got a prequel, Monster University, and another spawned last year’s box office smash, Finding Dory. Now here’s the automotive, track-burnin’ “hat trick” as good ole’ number 95, Lightning McQueen roars back...

Though Dwayne Johnson’s Midas touch wasn’t enough to salvage Baywatch from the murky depths of mediocrity, the former WWE superstar continues to be one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, and one glance at his IMDb page will tell you that Johnson has filled his slate all the way into the year 2020.
From Jungle Cruise to Rampage, San Andreas 2 to the as-yet-untitled ninth installment in Universal’s Fast and Furious saga, it’s a casting docket that mixes budding franchise-starters with blockbuster sequels. But the one Dwayne Johnson project that has undoubtedly sparked a sense of enthusiasm among DC fans is Black Adam.
The actor first signed on to play the hulking anti-hero three years ago and in those intervening years, he’s been busy raising awareness for Black Adam – heck, The Rock has even gone so far as to identify who he’d like to...

When it comes to Thunder Lotus’ Jotun: Valhalla Edition, the first game people will think of is Stoic’s The Banner Saga. Despite very different gameplay styles, the initial comparisons are obvious. Both games feature Norse mythology. Both use beautiful hand-drawn visuals. Both feature relatively long periods of quieter gameplay, followed by combat sequences. Also, both have been scored by composers with incredible amounts of talent.
But to tie the games together in this way would be unfair to both titles. As I say, the gameplay styles are very different. Jotun is a direct-controlled action affair where you play as Thora, a Viking woman who has suffered an inglorious death, meaning that she’s prevented from entering Valhalla. The great Odin offers up a second chance for the warrior though, tasking her with impressing the various gods by defeating them in combat. Do this, and Valhalla awaits.

Between the early 1950s and mid 1980s the Children's Film Foundation was a non-profit making establishment behind dozens of films aimed at a young audience, most of them screening as programme constituents at Saturday morning 'Picture Shows'. I didn't catch many of these during my own childhood. But I do recall a couple of particularly enjoyable ones that I did get to see in the early 1970s: Cry Wolf (1969) and All at Sea (1970), both of which are conspicuously absent from the half dozen or so collections issued on DVD to date. Many of the Cff’s films had a run-time of around an hour, although there were also a number of serials in their catalogue. Masters of Venus was one such production. Comprising eight 15-minute instalments, it arrives on DVD in the UK in a restored release from BFI.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. Or more accurately: In the grim darkness of the far future, everything is done because it’s awesome. Seriously, if Warhammer 40,000 had one rule, it would be everything is done because it’s cool.
Are things like chainsaw swords or giant robots the size of cities practical? No, not really. How about giant cathedrals on top of star ships the size of continents? Not particularly. Fire lines of plasma rifle wielding soldiers that can kill their enemies long before they get in range to hit them with their chainsaw swords? Ok, maybe, but the Tau Empire is different. A shame they’re not in this game.
However, while this game may not feature the best faction in the Warhamer 40k lore, it is still one of the best games to carry the Warhammer 40k title. At the very least,...

Dark Souls II's first Dlc is due today, and a new patch has addressed a huge list of issues...
News
The first Dlc for Dark Souls II, Crown of the Sunken King, has probably landed by the time you read this, and accompanying it is a huge update that fixes and tweaks a massive range of features.
You can see the full list below (and it's some list), but highlights include a limit to the amount of souls a player can earn whilst fighting invaders, and the removal of healing abilities during any form of PvP, a common annoyance for those who follow Dark Souls' community created honour system of no healing during a fight.
A good portion of the update deals with balancing, making changes to weapons damage, armour effectiveness, and spells. Some items have been changed too, such as the very handy Gower's Ring of Protection, which has been weakened,...

From Trevor Slattery to the Winter Soldier, Rob looks at one of the Marvel universe’s most curious traits...
This article contains spoilers for every McU movie up to and including Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Since Iron Man kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008, Marvel Studios has gradually built worldwide box office dominance, developing a sprawling superpowered franchise which every other studio wants to emulate. It isn’t without its curiosities and questionable decisions, though.
While Iron Man’s villain Obadiah Stane was revealed rather late in the film, he was a decent enough adversary for an origin story, and he pushed an early-in-his-superhero-career Tony Stark to his limits. In the same year, General Ross was a clear and deadly villain for The Incredible Hulk film, even though Tim Roth’s Abomination did all the heavy lifting.
Similarly, Tom Hiddlestone’s debut...

A strong antagonist makes for the most compelling stories. Especially in the world of superpowered heroes, a villain needs to work on many different levels or the movie falls flat. Here are 10 actors who were up for the role of a hero in a movie or television series, but were ultimately cast as the villain. With the exception of two entries on this list, all of the actors auditioned and or screen-tested for their respective parts. Though they didn’t get the part they initially wanted, they got the part they deserved, and gave audiences performances to remember.

While there is a likely Oscar-winner, a massive box set from HBO, and some true crowd-pleasers in this week’s What to Watch, it’s a bit of a downer compared to some more recent jam-packed weeks of Blu-ray and streaming greatness. We also couldn’t find an On Demand title this week worth mentioning, although Denis Villeneuve’s “Enemy,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, hits DirecTV On Demand this Thursday and you can bet we’ll be there to check it out before a March theatrical release. Until then, rent or buy something below.

‘Thor 2′ box office: ‘The Avengers’ bump not enough to propel Thor into Iron Man, Batman, Spider-Man, or Superman territory (Photo: Tom Hiddleston as Loki in ‘Thor: The Dark World’) Directed by Alan Taylor and starring Chris Hemsworth, Thor 2 — officially Thor: The Dark World — debuted in the U.S. and Canada on Friday, November 7, 2013, collecting an estimated $31.63 million from 3,841 sites, according to figures found at Box Office Mojo. That amount includes an estimated $7.1 million from Thursday evening and Friday midnight shows. Note: More than 3,100 North American theaters are showing Thor 2 in 3D. Needless to say, Thor: The Dark World, which also features Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, and Anthony Hopkins, will far surpass its predecessor at the domestic box office. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Thor 2011 debuted with $65.72 million. Due to the mammoth success of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, which featured Thor alongside The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America...

Every week, it seems WWE’s Main Event and Nxt give fans solid action in the ring. However, this week the fans focus may gravitate what’s behind the announce table. We had some pretty eclectic pairs in the announce booth this week that really made the shows way more memorable than they should’ve been. This especially goes for this week’s Main Event from Edmonton, Alberta.
The show opens with the introduction of our new broadcast team for the Main Event for the foreseeable future. Our new squad is The Miz, Josh Matthews and Ricardo Rodriguez. Perhaps WWE finally realized that having Michael Cole on every broadcast was a little much. I know he’s the voice of WWE but he’s overexposed.
It’s interesting that they decided to give Rodriguez a shot at the announce table. I think he is a good talker, but in the right situations.

In life, sometimes when you chase a dream you have to take a leap of faith. This jump is not without its consequences, gaining you many bruises and scars along the way. But if you put passion and love in everything you do you could transcend anything you thought possible and make an impact in the world. These words personify one of the most iconic wrestlers in the modern era. A guy that is the best-selling author, philanthropist, comedian, world champion and sock puppet aficionado Mick Foley. In the latest WWE DVD release, entitled “For All Mankind: the Life and Career of Mick Foley” they attempt to get a more in-depth look at the man behind the madness. Personally I think it’s much like the subject it follows it’s pretty good.

I haven't seen director Jérôme Salle's "The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch," based on the Belgian comic books created by Philippe Francq and Jean Van Hammer, but that fact might change this weekend. "Largo Winch" hits limited theaters and is available on video-on-demand today (November 18), presenting the story of an adventuring orphan who must confront his corporate billionaire father's murder, but not before slugging it out with drug traffickers, assassins and more first.
We've got two exclusive clips from "Largo Winch" to close your week out right. Check them out below, then tune into your VOD platform of choice to watch the full film.
