He wrote the popular 1904 song "Goodbye, My Lady Love", which is
interpolated into the Trocadero nightclub scene in nearly all the
American stage productions of Kern and Hammerstein's "Show Boat" (but
not in the London stage versions). The song was used in the 1936 film
version of the show, but not in the 1929 or 1951 film versions.
