New Orleans-based sports reporter Carley McCord was among the five people killed on Saturday when a small plane crashed into the parking lot of a post office in Lafayette, Louisiana, the Associated Press reported.
McCord — who covered the New Orleans Pelicans and the New Orleans Saints and freelanced as a sideline reporter for a number of networks, including ESPN and Wdsu — was on her way to Atlanta for the Peach Bowl game between Louisiana State University and University of Oklahoma when the plane went down shortly after takeoff.
Katc TV3 reported that the Lafayette Fire Department identified McCord as a victim, and her husband, Steven Ensminger Jr. confirmed her death to the AP.

To some it may seem ironical to see American filmmaker Paul Schrader’s “Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters” experience a similar notoriety as the man Yukio Mishima himself during his lifetime. Despite the fact it was shot in Japan and Schrader’s careful recognition of the country’s culture as well as its difficult relationship with the author, to this day the film has not been released in Mishima’s home country. Even though the reasons for that may be quite nebulous to many – an essay titled “Banned in Japan”, included in the Criterion release of the film might shed some light into that affair –, the significance of the film as a portrayal of a controversial artist fits perfectly into Paul Schrader’s predilection as a filmmaker and writer for the anti-hero, the protagonist who cannot be categorized and will challenge its viewer, even after the end credits.

Rob Zombie's Firefly family returns for a real day of the dead in the 3 From Hell trailer.
Free the three! Now we can have a real day of the dead. Just when you thought there was no justice in this world, the first full-length 3 From Hell trailer promises a bloodbath and a devil of a time. The odds were a million to one against Capt. Spaulding (Sid Haig), Otis Firefly (Bill Moseley), and Vera-Ellen "Baby" Firefly (Sheri Moon Zombie) surviving their standoff with the police at their last rampage, but with a little faith, nothing is impossible.
3 From Hell is a family movie. The Firefly family has a deadly tradition going back to 2003, with Rob Zombie's directorial debut House of 1000 Corpses making way for the 2005 sequel The Devil's Rejects. Written and directed by Rob Zombie, the trilogy tells the story of Dr. Satan and his merry band of murderous misfits.

Rob Zombie has officially blown the lid off 3 From Hell, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Kicking off the week in style, Zombie sent horror fans into a tizzy just yesterday with the delightfully gruesome teaser trailer, which offered a sneak peek into the twisted world of his follow-up to The Devil’s Rejects. And though many are already sold on the idea of 3 From Hell, the musician-cum-filmmaker has since announced that a new, extended preview will be released next month – just in time for the film’s theatrical release in September.
That’s right; we can expect 3 From Hell to hit the big screen in three months’ time, by which point we should have a better understanding of Zombie’s master plan for Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), Otis (Bill Moseley), and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie).
Here’s a little status report, courtesy of the director’s Facebook...

It must be said, cult horror director Rob Zombie has been doing a pretty effective job at keeping us in the loop and invested in the production of the upcoming 3 from Hell, all while keeping plot details tantalizingly vague.
The steady stream of information continues today with another Instagram post featuring a trio of smartly dressed men on the set of the long-awaited follow-up to 2003’s House of 1000 Corpses and 2005’s The Devil’s Rejects. Seen in the gallery below, it came accompanied with the following caption: Another Three From Hell exclusive! The suits are always dealing with The Rejects insanity. Featuring in this shot Kevin Jackson, Wade Williams and @jeffdanielphillips.
Since it’s already been heavily implied that a legal trial will be a key point of focus in the movie, it’s safe to assume that these men will be dealing with the criminal case of 3 from Hell‘s titular psychos.

Note: I reviewed the Criterion Collection’s 2008 DVD release of this film here at Cinema Retro. The product has now been upgraded to Blu-ray by the company. Much of the following is excerpted and/or revised from the original review, while also addressing the new Blu-ray.
Paul Schrader has always opined that Mishima—A Life in Four Chapters is his best film as a director, and I must agree. Originally released in 1985 (and executive produced by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas), the film is a fascinating bio-pic about controversial Japanese author/actor Yukio Mishima. Schrader, a successful screenwriter who has also had an interesting hit-and-miss career as a director, co-wrote the film with his brother Leonard and filmed it in Japan with a Japanese cast and crew. Ironically, the film was banned in Japan upon its release due to the controversial nature of...

Fox News contributor Kevin Jackson insinuated Tuesday that the FBI may have tried to assassinate President Donald Trump on “Outnumbered.” The theory was raised during a discussion of anti-Trump text messages from FBI agent Peter Strzok, who later went on to join (and be removed from) Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation. “Well, I think they’re going to say, is it — what was his intent, right?” Jackson said of Strzok, “Because that’s exactly what FBI Director, former FBI director Comey said when he was letting Hillary Clinton off the hook. And his intent, regardless of whether it was an assassination attempt.
