Last night a work in progress print of Paranormal Activity 4 was shown to audiences at this year's Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. Of course we were on the scene and have come back with a review of what was shown. That being said...
Keep in mind that this is an assessment of an unfinished film so there's room for lots of changes and tweaking between now and its official release. The purpose of screening films at this stage is so that the filmmakers can gather notes and improve upon what is there. We can only report on what was shown at the event.
Read on for our Paranormal Activity 4 work print review.

This week's edition of Entertainment Weekly is home to a new still from Paranormal Activity 4 as well as a super brief conversation with directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost. Read on for the details.
Though everyone involved is still Very tight-lipped, EW did squeeze this nugget out of the duo: “I can tell you this – we’re definitely expanding on the mythology and the history of this demon,” Schulman says of PA4. “We’re really trying to get to the bottom of it!”
They also went on to neither confirm nor deny if Katie would be back in some form or another, saying only that "she haunts our dreams." Stay tuned.

Fans of the Paranormal Activity franchise will once again be able to use social networking to decide which 25 cities around the world will see the film first.
It follows a similar vote last year which saw Melbourne voted among the top 20 cities to host an advanced screening of Paranormal Activity 3, although that campaign relied on social networking rival Twitter.

"All of the activity has led to this."
We've been teased with a few teaser trailers throughout the week leading to the released of this full trailer for Paranormal Activity 4. Directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman took the story in a direction I didn't see coming, but it makes sense that they would move the story forward instead of backwards at this point. I like that the kid that was kidnapped comes back as an evil ass Damien type character.
Paramount Pictures has also announced that Facebook fans of the film can determine which 25 cities around the world will get early screenings of the movie. The full details for that are below the trailer.
I've enjoyed watching this franchise, and I liked the movies more than I thought I would. I hope this one is just as entertaining. Watch the trailer, and let us know if you think it's...

An additional two weeks of production will be shot later to complete the monster effects sequences and film pick-ups.

The film stars Erin McGrane, Meg Saricks, Emily Boresow, and Sally Spurgeon. It is directed by Patrick Rea, written by Kendal Sinn and Rea, and produced by Aaron Laue (Last Breath). The director of photography is Hanuman Brown-Eagle, and the photos below are courtesy of Matt Jacobson.
