The Kenyan film industry is producing some exciting films, and they are using all the filmmaking techniques that the Americans and the French used to enhance their cinema. One can clearly see those techniques in action in Bufis, aka Daydreamers, the new Netflix film. Directed by Mahad Ahmed and Vincenzo Cavallo, the movie is based on the true story of a scam that was prevalent in Kenya. Many people, usually Somalis who had crossed over to Kenya during the 1991 civil unrest, had found unique ways to get visas approved and get a chance to reach the land of opportunities—the United States of America.

Hollywood actor and producer Michael B. Jordan is doing well after crashing his car in Hollywood on Saturday evening, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Creed 3 star reportedly crashed his blue Ferrari into another vehicle parked at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and North Beachwood Drive. Jordan had been set to appear at the gala — the third annual, star-studded benefit for the movie museum, where current exhibits spotlight the works of director John Waters and Lourdes Portillo as well as the 1991 film Boyz n the Hood. Here's hoping Invasion receives a third-season order from Apple TV+ because viewers were left with a cliffhanger.
Humanity made its long-awaited counterassault on the alien mother ship on Invasion Season 2 Episode 10.
Still, do two people, one being a teenager, qualify as a counterassault?
That will depend on whether Trevante can determine how to wield that shard most efficiently.
There's also the question of Caspar's abilities beyond transferring his consciousness to that ship. He's got to be more than a celestial tour guide.
And making all of this possible was Mitzuki, who got pushed to her limits after visiting the mother ship on Invasion Season 2 Episode 9.
All her interaction with the alien portal had left Mitzuki, to use a technical term, more than a little scrambled.
She was holding things just slightly more together than that ward full of the scientists who had formerly interacted with the alien entity she later identified as a portal.

Finally, after nearly two seasons apart, the resistance forces are starting to come together.
Still, the title of Invasion Season 2 Episode 9 was a bit of an exaggeration.
The Earth forces know more about the aliens now. But how do they translate that hard-earned knowledge into victory?
It made sense that humanity's biggest two weapons finally united to make a crucial discovery.
Determined to make amends for the death of her lover, Hinata, Mitsuki has risked her life repeatedly to learn more about the aliens who took Hinata from her.
Even though Nikhil was happy to take the Wdc kudos, Mitsuki deserves credit for the handful of human wins in this war against the invaders.
That being said, her blowing up the alien entity/portal with which she had been melding probably wasn't the best of choices, even though she did stop the seismic events caused by the aliens on Invasion...

As the second season of Invasion draws near its end, questions just keep piling up, and characters start acting increasingly erratic due to the relentless pressure and threat imposed by the alien assault. Some big revelations are made by the end of the eighth episode, titled Cosmic Ocean, but the issue of pacing continues to plague the series, as at times the episodes act like filler in the narrative whole.
In the previous episode, by risking her life, Mitsuki was able to decode alien language from the hive mind entity in the Amazon project. At Oklahoma, Trev and Rose were able to reach the epicenter of the first alien assault, at Ben Shelton’s farm, which they found to have become a fortified military camp—Project Idabel. Sadly, humanity continued to make little progress against its alien invaders.
Pressing for answers only made things worse on Invasion Season 2 Episode 8.
Let's begin with Nikhil's Amazon Project, the only government-sanctioned effort to discover something, anything that will work against the aliens.
Mitsuki, Earth's best bet to come up with a solution, was flat-out wearing down. Too much connection with the alien entity and too little sleep as she tried to unravel the alien language left her far less than 100 percent.
It's a good thing Mitsuki has Maya on her side. Maya wouidn't send her back into the lion's den before she had recovered more.
Mitsuki wasn't herself these days. Thanks to long days attempting to crack the alien language and too much time spent with the alien entity, she was unsure if the voices she hears are authentic or come from her imagination.

Finding lost ones and almost losing the ones you’ve found seems to be the theme of the seventh episode of Invasion, as key characters from different segments of the series strengthen their resolve by extending their circle of trust. Previously, en route to Camp Pierce, where Sarah has been abducted by the military, the Movement convoy got ambushed by hunter aliens. Later, Luke’s psychic connection with the aliens and Aneesha’s bravery allowed Movement members to escape with their lives.
Jamila and co. managed to find Caspar at the hospital in Paris, but Monty seemingly holds the opinion that Caspar is not his old self. At Oklahoma, Trev and county deputy Rose learn about the series of disappearances being linked with alien abduction, and it seems like Rose has lost someone close to her, named Billy, in one of the abduction cases. The resistance is coming together, if ever so slowly.
The question that never honestly got answered in Invasion Season 2 Episode 7 is: who is the enemy, the military or the aliens?
The smart money would still have to go on the transformed aliens, now flat-out killing machines.
But, after an initial round of unity after the aliens invaded, humanity has splintered again. But instead of having hundreds of nation-states, it's broken down into the military and civilians.
Unfortunately, while the civilians are developing good ideas about conquering the aliens, the military has the guns and a rigid mindset regarding civilians.
You would think that Trevante Cole, of all people, would understand that, being former military and all.
But Trevante is a civilian on a mission now. Fate has thrown him together with Rose, who may be even more obsessed with the aliens than him, if that's possible.

When it comes to unwinding the central mystery of alien invaders, at times it feels like Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama Invasion seems to move around the same loop without actually revealing anything new. The first season had already hinted that some of the gifted teenagers, like Caspar and Luke, had an intriguing connection they shared with the aliens, and at present, the series is already halfway through its second season, hovering over that aspect only. In the previous episode, while making a rather bold decision, Mitsuki came into direct contact with the alien hive mind stationed at the research center, where she was confronted by a young version of Hinata and was able to peek through a portal door to look at Caspar on the other side. At the Movement shelter, Aneesha’s real identity was revealed, which initially put her in conflict with other group members, but the...

This has to be a breakthrough, right?
Several vital characters found ways to communicate with the invading aliens on Invasion Season 2 Episode 6.
So maybe soon we might get answers as to why the aliens are on Earth and what they want.
If humanity's leaders can get those answers, maybe, just maybe, they could act rather than react as they have so far. They can go on offense rather than continuing to play defense.
Man, it's taken a long time to get to this point. It's been a season and a half, and we still know little about the aliens.
They have to have more going on than just being mindless attacking machines, don't they?
Communication is going to be critical if humans are to survive. And at the forefront has been Mitsuki Yamato.
That's understandable, as she both feels guilty about and wants revenge on the aliens for the death of her lover,...

Humanity can't catch a break, can it?
Invasion Season 2 Episode 5 found the Earthlings scrambling to take back the advantage from the alien invaders.
But as World President Benya Motabe pointed out, the planet's government had zero idea how to accomplish that. So it was back to the strategy of running and hiding, not a great way to gain any momentum.
There was quite a bit going on this episode. Still, nothing pointed to any solution for these new "hunter-killer" aliens that resembled giant angry wolves when they came after Jamila and her friends on Invasion Season 2 Episode 4.
The burden of locating some vulnerability for these improved aliens naturally fell on Nikhil and his team of researchers, led by Mitsuki.
After all, Mitsuki was the person who discovered how to hack the communication signal from the alien entity she had been attempting to establish contact with to its mother ship.

It would have been natural for directors Dk Welchman and Hugh Welchman to follow up their highly acclaimed, arthouse smash hit Loving Vincent, about Vincent Van Gogh, with another film exactly in the same vein: Pining for Picasso, Mooning Over Monet, Rhapsodizing About Rembrandt — the possibilities seem aimless. But this talented husband-and-wife filmmaking team has taken their distinctive style of painterly cinema in an even more ambitious direction with their new effort, which received its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Adapted from Polish author Wladyslaw Reymont’s Nobel Prize-winning novel, released in four parts from 1904 to 1909, The Peasants is a ravishingly beautiful visual triumph.
The folklore-style tale, set in a 19th-century rural Polish village, revolves around star-crossed lovers. Jamila (Kamila Urzedowska, stunning in animated form) is a young woman whose striking blonde beauty has made her both the subject of intense gossip among the villagers and the...

One of the most bizarre aspects of the second season of AppleTV+’s sci-fi series Invasion is how the pacing turns out to be random and all over the place. While the first and third episodes accelerated the narrative by deftly handling multiple storylines at once, the second and fourth episodes dedicate entire episodes to rather inconsequential segments that barely move the plot forward, if at all. Especially the fourth episode, The Tunnel, tries to put a survival horror twist in the narrative flow, and in doing so, it not only disrupts the pacing but also goes way off course with the central plotline.
In the previous episode, Mitsuki’s maneuver involving the formless alien entity disabled the cloaking mechanism of the invading alien attack vessels, which gave the Wdc a brief window of time to shoot the majority of them down. The collapse of attack vessels rendered the invading alien life forms inactive,...

Well, using the Channel Tunnel to go after Casper in Paris seemed like a good idea at the time.
But everything about the alien invaders has been a horror show. So why would Invasion Season 2 Episode 4 be any different?
Fortunately, Monty's iffy driving skills didn't kill him, his sister, and his classmates first, even though he inflicted severe punishment on that Jaguar's transmission.
Whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger. Let's hope that's the case for Jamila and company anyway.
It was humorous that they missed a huge global event because Monty was cranking rap the whole way to the Chunnel.
But Jamila wouldn't let a little thing, such as the latest international reaction to an alien invasion, stop her mission to find and rescue Casper.
Instead, she directed Monty to drive until she could locate an alternate route into the tunnel. And damned if they didn't find one,...

After a steady start to the second season with Something’s Changed, which showcased the new world order of a post-invasion dystopia, the second episode of Apple TV+’s Invasion, titled Chasing Ghosts, brings the narrative flow to an abrupt halt. Information that could have easily been added to any other episode with two additional narrative segments is needlessly stretched out to almost an hour-long episode, as it seems the makers are wilfully shackling down the otherwise strong potential that the first episode promised.
In the previous episode, viewers learned that four months after the invasion, the world government has mingled into a single overseeing organization named the Coalition, which is facing adversity in the presence of an insurgence group known as the Movement. The Coalition is also working with the eccentric, fabulously wealthy investor Nikhil Kapur, who abducts Mitsuki and requests that she venture into the alien mothership in...

There was no relief at being home for Jamila and Trevante.
That's because both were still haunted by not knowing the fate of Casper on Invasion Season 2 Episode 2.
It's a shame since Jamila and Trevante went through so much to return to their families.
Jamila was one of the standout characters of Invasion Season 1, the most mature among her classmates who were stranded when their bus crashed on the day of the invasion.
She befriended the sickly, oft-bullied Casper, who had been crushing on her. They grew closer throughout the invasion crisis.
Jamila was skeptical about what Casper said about his connection to the aliens. But in the season finale, Casper used his abilities to fend off an alien attack on the hospital where they were housed. But Casper's fate was left up in the air at the end of last season.
After seeing Casper in action, Jamila felt he...

Apple TV+'s Invasion Season 2 brings together a cast of both old and new faces.
When Season 1 finished, despite what felt like a victory against the aliens, the situation on Earth didn't feel all too hopeful. Aneesha Malik is grappling with stubborn children after losing her husband, Jamila lost Caspar after his mental attack against the invaders, and Trevante witnessed a new mothership floating above Earth.
Now, the story is finally set to continue with Season 2. The alien invasion seems to be heating up with more coordinated attacks from the enemy, and more mysteries are popping up that demand answers.

After an alien attack nearly destroys Earth, the human race must rebuild in the second season of Invasion — but the war isn’t over yet.
The sci-fi series premieres Aug. 23 on Apple TV+ and “picks up just months later with the aliens escalating their attacks in an all-out war against the humans,” per the logline. The drama’s second season follows the invasion through the eyes of people around the world: Aneesha (Golshifteh Farahani), a mother of two who leads her family to survival; Mitsuki (Shioli Kutsuna), a Jasa communications specialist who helps the Japan-led defeat of the first alien attack; Trevante (Shamier Anderson), a Navy Seal who returns home from Afghanistan; and Jamila (India Brown) and Monty (Paddy Holland), two school children who must go on after their friend Caspar (Billy Barratt) is left brain dead from a seizure related to the invasion. The second season also stars Azhy Robertson,...

Wrangling 10 busy sisters in one room is already a herculean task — try planning a production schedule around them. That’s just what the team behind “Secrets & Sisterhood: The Sozahdahs” had to do.
The reality series, which premiered June 7 on Hulu, follows the 10 siblings of the Sozahdah family: Shaista, Halimah, Khadija, Rabya, Shakur, Muzlefa, Jamila, Siddiqa, Nooreya and Hamida.
“The Sozahdahs have both a complicated past as well as an often complex present that makes for an abundance of story possibilities. These run the emotional spectrum from super heartfelt to hilarious to heated at times,” says Dane Joseph, Vice President of Unscripted Series for Hulu Originals. “Each of their interactions are rooted in love, but are genuinely unpredictable, which is what makes unscripted content so exciting to work on.”
The sisters have also stirred up some controversy online due to their portrayal of the Islamic faith on the show. There...
