Director/writer: David A. Cross.
Cast: Tracy Teague, Mathew J. Wright and Vince Eustace.
Director/writer David A. Cross has a very interesting product with a movie that delves into the ancient supernatural beliefs of the Ancient Romans. They believed that the soul escapes from an individual at the point of death. For those who know they are ready to pass, the eldest surviving male needs to be present. At the moment of death, the breath is caught with the mouth. Very little is said about the significance of this act; perhaps it is to indicate the transmission of wisdom to the next generation.
In the movie Respire, Cross offers an interpretation that is very close. The memories, knowledge and essence of the person who passed on will do more. The consumed “soul” can be bottled up (which may be a bad thing) and it will prolong the...

David A. Cross is the director behind the direct to video horror series "Ghostwatcher". While these two films weren't particularly good, they were hits on the video market and did well rental wise ensuring that David could continue on with making horror films. His latest effort to be released to DVD, Respire, is his most ambitious effort to date. David A. Cross has really stepped up his game and turned in a dynamic, energetic film with exuberance and most importantly, a good story. With far less money at his disposal, David A. Cross has made a film that is far better then some of its big budget counterparts like The Crazies, Splice or the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake. With Respire, Susan Jordan (Tracy Teague), a local novelty shop owner and terminally ill woman, has been given little more than six months to live. She searches desperately for a way to extend her life.

Tracy Teague is a raising scream queen in the independent horror film scene having just starred in David A. Cross's Respire and in the upcoming The Haunting of Pearson Place which co-stars Joe Estevez. Her combination of feminity and a tough take no prisoners attitiude in a way recalls legendary scream queen Linnea Quigley (Night of the Demons) in her prime. With Respire, there was so much going on plot and visual wise. If Respire had a leading lady of lesser talent, they would have got lost in the shuffle. However, Tracy Teague was able to hold her own admist everything that was going on within the film. She stood out and proved herself to be a dynamic screen presence worthy of taking note of and keeping an eye out for to see what she's got going on next. Here's what Tracy Teague had to say about her work...

There aren’t too many motion pictures these days about novelty shop owners who huff the final breath of the dying in order to stay alive, and for the life of me, I can’t understand why. Writer/director David A. Cross — not to be confused with “Arrested Development” and “Mr. Show” star David Cross — tackles this subject matter with his film “Respire”, which will see the light of day courtesy of Mti Home Video this February. If that description isn’t enough to brutally ensnare your interest, behold the embedded trailer, which strongly suggests that the story takes a very epic turn towards the final act. Fine by me. Here are the specifics on the plot: Susan Jordan, a local novelty shop owner and terminally ill woman, has been given little more than six months to live.
