- American performer of exotic (and erotic) Oriental dance routines, who came to notoriety for her role as Ancaria in The Sign of the Cross (1932). Earlier, in August 1927, she was twice shot and wounded by her jealous husband who subsequently absconded. In 1929, Joyzelle married the director Phil Rosen. She came to public notice again a year later, dancing in futuristic attire in Just Imagine (1930). After "Sign of the Cross", the novelty had worn off and Joyzelle was relegated to minor supporting roles for the rest of the decade.
