Kamen, long confirmed a bachelor, married Margot Bankoff, a professor of Philosophy at City College on April 8th 1969.
Before his comedy career, Kamen played the French Horn with the Metropolitan Opera.
Kamen won a scholarship to the Juilliard School of Music.
While performing in the Catskills, Kamen discovered Woody Allen and got him a job writing for Sid Caesar.
In 1964, Kamen played Lev Kamenev opposite Peter Falk (Stalin) & Luther Adler (Lenin) in Paddy Chayefsky's The Passion Of Josef D. on Broadway.
