Shares of Paxson Communications more than doubled last week as rumors swirled that celebrity management company the Firm is negotiating a purchase of the financially strapped operator of the Pax television network. News of the Firm's interest in Paxson broke Friday, sending shares up 20% just two days after it was revealed that business entrepreneur/TV personality Byron Allen also was considering a $2.2 billion purchase of Paxson. That report sent shares soaring as well. At the close of Wall Street trading Friday, Paxson shares, traded on the American Stock Exchange, were at $1.38 after having begun the week at 58 cents. Adding credibility to speculation that the Firm is interested in adding broadcasting to its business mix was confirmation Friday that the company hired David Kang as senior vp strategic development and new media.
