Unlike the many cinematic iterations of F. Scott Fitzgerald's “The Great Gatsby” leading up to Baz Luhrmann's this summer, the John Steinbeck-penned classic, “The Grapes of Wrath,” managed an acclaimed adaptation first time around with director John Ford's help. Starring Henry Fonda and picking up two Oscars including Best Director, the 1940 film still appears on the lists of all-time greats, but with age comes the urge to remake, and now a filmmaker greatly inspired by Ford has decide to attempt one. Deadline reports that Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks have begun talks over rights with the Steinbeck estate to produce an update of the Great Depression tale, which focuses on the Joad farming family struck by poverty and hunger in California. Apparently Hollywood was already highly invested in seeing a version made, with Robert Redford reportedly working with producer David Kennedy (“Dark...

Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil and Illumination Entertainment are developing a movie based on the life of Dr. Seuss -- and Depp may play the lead role, TheWrap has confirmed. Keith Bunin ("In Treatment") is working on the script. An individual close to the project told TheWrap that it's extremely early in the development process and that with the exception of Bunin and producers Depp, his Infinitum Nihil colleague Christi Dembrowski and Illumination's Christopher Meledandri and David Kennedy, there are no attachments. Universal would distribute. Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Geisel, was the...

Illumination Entertainment and Infinitum Nihil are developing a live-action biopic about classic children's author and illustrator Dr. Seuss (aka Theodor Geisel) which Universal Pictures will distribute says Risky Biz Blog.
Geisel was born in 1904 and spent much of his childhood in Massachusetts before going to college at Dartmouth. Throughout his early years, he drew advertising and comic strips, then political cartoons during World War II.
By 1950, Geisel was publishing the books that have sold more than 200 million copies worldwide. He died of throat cancer in 1991.
Johnny Depp will produce the project with the potential to star as Seuss, while Keith Bunin ("In Treatment") has been hired to write the screenplay. While it won't be a major fantasy film (ala "Alice in Wonderland"), there might be some "animated bells and whistles" added to the mix.

Johnny Depp has already played two famous authors: Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and J.M. Barrie in Finding Neverland. (You could say he has almost played a third, William Blake, in Dead Man.) Now he's is set to produce a film about Theodor Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss. And he'll likely play the beloved writer and illustrator, as well. THR [1] says that Depp's company, Infinitum Nihil, is developing the film with Illumination Entertainment -- it's a live-action film about the life of Dr. Seuss, and Universal is set to distribute the end result, should it come to fruition. (Illumination Entertainment is the same company behind Despicable Me and The Lorax, also both Universal films.) Keith Bunin (In Treatment) will script. The trade says that the producers (Christi Dembrowski, Illumination's Christopher Meledandri and David Kennedy) "are not ruling out animated bells and whistles," but in general this...

Johnny Depp loves to play the most interesting characters and that’s not a bad niche to find roles in either. Depp does different and does it well. Now, it looks like dear ‘ole Johnny is in cahoots with Disney in more than films involving pirates.
Deadline reports that Depp’s Infinitum Nihil and Disney are collaborating on a feature film version on the 1970’s television movie and subsequent series, The Night Stalker, created by Darren McGavin. The Night Stalker followed tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak in his investigations into vampires, zombies, werewolves, and aliens – all subjects hot in today’s mainstream. Timing seems to be right on trend with this project.

[1] Johnny Depp's fruitful relationship with Disney continues with two new projects, which Depp will be producing with Christi Dembrowski through their company Infinitum Nihil. The first is a feature adaptation of The Night Stalker, a made-for-tv vampire flick from the 1970s, while the other will tell the story of American hero Paul Revere during his famous midnight ride. Both films may yield starring roles for Depp. Read more after the jump. The Night Stalker revolves around an investigative reporter named Carl Kolchak who starts to believe that a Las Vegas-area serial killer may, in fact, be a vampire. The original TV movie, starring Darren McGavin, was such a hit that it gave rise to a follow-up titled The Night Strangler as well as a mid-'70s ABC series titled Kolchak: The Night Stalker. The show featured the title character running into all manner of supernatural creatures, from zombies to werewolves to aliens.

Continuing a now longstanding relationship, the Pirates actor's Infinitum Nihil company will collaborate with the media giant in bringing both potential starring vehicles for Depp to the big screen. The Night Stalker was a TV movie which originally aired on ABC in 1972. The plot followed an abrasive and down-on-his-luck investigative reporter who discovers his most important piece while at a low-grade Las Vegas newspaper. A killer is biting the necks of young women and subsequently draining their blood. The correspondent must overcome obstacles set by his employers and local law enforcement to get to the truth of the murders either being an act of the supernatural or pure sadism. Depp's Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski will produce alongside him with David Kennedy on to...

Writes Deadline in an exclusive report, "Depp had fond memories of the ABC telepic and series The Night Stalker, and got Disney's Rich Ross and Sean Bailey sparked on a pitch for Depp to potentially play tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak. Originated by Darren McGavin, Kolchak was the dogged journalist first seen in the 1972 telepic (where he hunted a killer who was draining the blood of beautiful girls on the Las Vegas strip) and later in the ABC series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Kolchak's investigations always seemed to lead him to the doorstep of vampires, zombies, werewolves and aliens. For its time, it was pretty scary stuff. The studio will go out to writers shortly. David Kennedy will be exec producer." Deadline failed to mention that there was a 1973 TV movie called The Night Strangler (co-starring Richard Dean Anderson as the creature, soon to be cast as Oscar Goldman in The...

In 2010, no dance producer was as consistent as London’s David Kennedy, who released a fusillade of bass-heavy tracks under the names Ramadanman (“Don’t Change For Me,” “Work Them”) and Pearson Sound (a seething remix of M.I.A.’s “It Takes A Muscle”) that made hash of the borders between dubstep, house, and grime. That’s equally true of FabricLive 56, Kennedy’s installment of the London super-club’s never-ending DJ series. A third of these 34 tracks are by Kennedy, either as producer or remixer (a few of which, like “Project” and “Stifle,” are new), but ...
