A milestone in global television production has been set by Sony Pictures Television International with the inking of the largest program production commission ever set by an American company in Russia. The landmark deal with local Russian production partner AmediA Group and broadcaster CTC in Moscow will result in more than 300 hours of scripted drama and comedy production for primetime TV in Russia. As the international television production and distribution community eyes Russia as an emerging, potentially enormous market, the deal "not only expands Sony's international production base, but it also serves as an incredible opportunity to grow the local production capabilities in Russia, opening the door for more business development as well as cultural exchange," SPTI executive vp international productions Steve Kent said.
