New Delhi, Aug 24 (Ians) Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has reportedly made himself available for the 2023-24 Big Bash League (Bbl) season, relenting on his threat to boycott the tournament.
In January of this year, the star of-spinner threatened to quit Bbl after Cricket Australia’s (CA) decision to withdraw from a three-match Odi series against Afghanistan due Taliban’s ban on girls’ education in the country.
Following CA’s decision to not compete against Afghanistan in the scheduled Odi series, Rashid Khan left the 2022-23 Bbl season midway.
“I am really disappointed to hear that Australia have pulled out of the series to play us in March. If playing Afghanistan is so uncomfortable for Australia, then I wouldn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable with my presence in the Bbl. Therefore, I will be strongly considering my future in that competition,” he had said at the time.

Hambantota, Aug 22 (Ians) Ahead of the Asia Cup and the subsequent World Cup India, Pakistan pacers came up with a strong performance in the 1st Odi against Afghanistan here on Tuesday.
The Pakistan pacers shared eight wickets between them as they bowled Afghanistan out for 59 in the first Odi of the three-match series.
Haris Rauf (5-18) took a career-best haul while Shaheen Shah Afridi (2-9) and Naseem Shah (1-12) also hit top gear in Pakistan’s first Odi outside home in 2023.
Pakistan had struggled to gather momentum in their own batting innings, needing a late ninth-wicket stand to lift them past 200 against a strong Afghanistan bowling attack.
Opener Imam-ul-Haq was the only silver lining for Pakistan as he struck a 94-ball 61 while ShadabKhan (39) and Iftikhar Ahmed (30) too made vital contributions as the 1992 World Champions were all out 201 in 47.1 overs.
But the quicks ensured that Pakistan were on course for a win within the first 10 overs.

Kabul, Aug 6 (Ians) The 18-year-old left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad made a comeback as the Afghanistan Cricket Board announced a strong 18-member squad for the three-match Odi series against Pakistan to be played in Sri Lanka later this month.
For the series which will be a buildup for the Asia Cup and an important stop in firming up their squad for the upcoming Men’s Odi World Cup in India, Afghanistan brought back teenage spinner Noor Ahmad as they work out various combinations.
Noor’s return means that there was no room for left-arm spinner Zia Ur Rahman Akbar, who recently made his Odi debut against Bangladesh, the squad to be led by Hashmatullah Shahidi.
Uncapped leg-spinner Izhar-ul-haq Naveed, who was part of the Test squad, has also been left out for the three matches that will be played on August 22, 24 and August 26.

Jaipur, May 6 (Ians) Rajasthan Royals head coach and director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara admitted that his team’s performance in a nine-wicket defeat to Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium was “embarrassing”, while adding that the inaugural Ipl winners couldn’t make the most out of the good start they had.
Electing to bat first, Rajasthan suffered an unbelievable batting meltdown from 47/1 in five overs to being 118 all out in 17.5 overs, recording the second-lowest total of Ipl 2023, which Gujarat chased down in 13.5 overs.
“It is embarrassing for anyone when you don’t play well. We were very, very poor in terms of capitalising on the starts we got. We were showing intent for a while, but we were a little bit reckless, and then we had very, very little intent against the two spinners,” he said in the post-match press conference.

Jaipur, May 5 (Ians) Rajasthan Royals (Rr) won the toss and opted to bat first against Gujarat Titans (Gt) in an Ipl 2023 match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, here on Friday.
While Rr made one change in the playing XI as Adam Zampa came in for Jason Holder, Gt haven’t made any change.
“We would like to bat first. It’s a bit hard to read this pitch. Let’s bat a few overs and figure it out later. The standard of cricket we are playing is really good. We were expecting something like this from Jaiswal with the prep he had been putting in. Zampa comes in place of Holder,” Rr skipper Sanju Samson said at the toss.
Gt captain Hardik Pandya said: “We were going to bat first as well. If the home captain does not know what to choose, I thought I might as well bowl and see what happens.

Ahmedabad, May 3 (Ians) After his batting heroics against Gujarat Titans in an Ipl 2023, Delhi Capitals (DC) all-rounder Aman Hakim Khan has revealed that he had a strong desire to utilise the opportunity that came his way when his team-mate Mitchell Marsh fell sick before the game.
Walking into bat at 23/5, Khan scored 51 runs off 44 balls and led the recovery of his side from a precarious situation as DC went on to post a total of 130/8 in their 20 overs against Titans on Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old got a place in the playing eleven, just a few hours before the game and capitalised well on the opportunity as he made an impact with his performance.
“(In earlier matches) I was going to bat at 30 balls 100 required and all of that. I wasn’t thinking much and I wasn’t low on confidence. But in the previous game that I played in Hyderabad,...

Ahmedabad, April 17 (Ians) Rajasthan Royals head coach and director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara lauded skipper Sanju Samson for bringing out his attacking game against Gujarat Titans’ leg-spinner Rashid Khan, saying the ‘hat-trick’ of sixes he hit against him was the game-changer in swinging the momentum in their favour.
With 112 more runs off 48 balls, not many gave Rajasthan a chance for a victory as they were 66/4 in 12 overs. But Samson unleashed by taking 20 runs off Rashid Khan in the 13th over via a hat-trick of sixes to eventually make 60 while Shimron Hetmyer smashed a whirlwind unbeaten 56 off just 26 balls to give Rajasthan an improbable three-wicket victory.
“Not just you got us through the powerplay, but that Rashid Khan over and then how you kicked on from there, that was the game changer. Their best bowler, some say the best T20 spinner in the world, was completely caught off the guard,” said...

Mohali, April 13 (Ians) Hardik Pandya returned to captain Gujarat Titans as the defending champions won the toss and elected to bowl first against Punjab Kings at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium on Thursday.
Both teams are into this game after facing defeats in their last match. While Gujarat lost to Kolkata Knight Riders as Rinku Singh hit five sixes on the last five balls, Punjab went down to Sunrisers Hyderabad despite captain Shikhar Dhawan making 99 not out in a batting masterclass.
“Just looks like a good wicket, and from whatever I’ve seen it’s good to chase. Was a one-in-a-million defeat (to Kolkata). We are the kind of team that takes it with a smile. Played good cricket until that last over. It happens. It’s a fresh game. We’ll come out and smile, and throw some punches,” said Hardik, who missed the game against Kolkata due to being unwell.
