Original Sepultura members Max and Iggor Cavalera have announced a re-recording of the legendary thrash band’s Schizophrenia, out June 21st via Nuclear Blast Records.
It marks the third re-recorded Sepultura album from the Cavalera brothers following new versions of their earliest works Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation. They appear to be going through the discography in chronological order, with Schizophrenia being Sepultura’s vaunted third album from 1987.
Cavalera shared the re-recorded take of “Escape to the Void” as the lead single for the release. The killer riffs and energy of the original remain intact, while the modern recording and production offers a better glimpse at the technicality under the hood. The original Schizophrenia is a beloved album, though its production left something to be desired. That’s where these re-recordings excel — revisionist in a good way.

Drummer Eloy Casagrande has parted ways with Sepultura just prior to the launch of the Brazilian band’s 18th-month farewell tour.
Casagrande’s departure comes on short notice for fans, though he did inform his bandmates of his decision back on February 6th, prior to their first rehearsal for the tour.
American drummer Greyson Nekrutman will take over for Casagrande, per an official announcement from Sepultura. The trek is set to kick off on Friday (March 1st) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, with the initial leg of overseas dates running through the end of the year (get tickets here).
Casagrande joined Sepultura in 2011 and performed on three studio albums during his stint in the group. On Tuesday (February 27th), the drummer released a statement on Instagram announcing his exit:
“I would like to announce my departure from Sepultura. Being part of the biggest Brazilian metal band was one of the best experiences of my life.

Sepultura – The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be The Heart
Label: Nuclear Blast
With an entry due in the Guinness Book of Records, perhaps, for the longest album name in history – Sepultura’s 13th studio effort has introduced yet another line-up change into their ranks.
Drummer Eloy Casagrande makes his debut on an album which sees the Brazilian quartet reunited with Ross Robinson, who previously produced ‘Roots’, their last release with former singer and founder Max Cavalera. The results of this partnership are immediately evident in the fresh sound of this craft, with tracks like “Grief” and “Impending Doom” sounding as crushing as anything from ‘Chaos A.D.’
Of course, if a band is only as good as their last album, then this will certainly boost their appeal – what’s best is that the album feels like a Sepultura release, retaining the principles and energy of classic Thrash, while...

Accusations will always follow Sonisphere festival – usually aimed from those most preposterously pretentious metal fans who frequent supposedly non-mainstream festivals like Bloodstock – that Sonisphere is little more than a sell-out event, aimed at watered-down metal fans of pop-edged bands who have long since let go their grip on creative integrity in favour of the almighty dollar.
But 2011′s fest boasted one of the most impressive line-ups rock festivals have seen for a good long while, thanks largely to the promise of the Big Four playing together on one stage in one glorious night, as well as talent from across almost every sub-genre of rock from pop-punk (Weezer, YouMeAtSix), to comedy-tinged re-imaginings (Hayseed Dixie, Richard Cheese) and the bona-fide megastars of Slipknot, Biffy Clyro
And no matter what pigeon-hole those bands might fall into, a festival experience that includes so much breadth, and so much inclusive passion for music in general...

Slipknot star Paul Gray's supergroup side project Hail! are to continue with plans to tour Europe in June following the bass player's death on Monday, May 24. The rocker was preparing for the three-week tour, which begins at the weekend, May 30, when he was found dead in an Iowa hotel room.
Bandmates Tim 'Ripper' Owens, David Ellefson and Andreas Kisser insist the show must go on, and they've drafted in session musician James Lomenzo, who has played with White Lion and Megadeth, to replace the dead star. A statement from Hail! reads, "On Monday we were dealt a devastating blow with Paul's passing two days before our departure. We discussed the situation and unanimously thought that, in the face of this tragedy, we needed to remain strong and push forward because Paul would have vehemently insisted that the show must go on."
"In a desperate situation, we made an emergency...

Heavy-metal musicians were quick to react to the death of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, as news spread online in a manner all too familiar to a community still reeling from the recent deaths of legendary singer Ronnie James Dio and Type O Negative frontman Peter Steele.
"I'm so crushed to hear about the passing of Paul Gray," Shadows Fall singer Brian Fair told MTV News. "I had the pleasure of first getting to know him on a press trip to New York City before our tour with Slipknot and Lamb of God in 2005 and then sharing stages and good times with him and the boys around the world.

The Des Moines Register reported that police were called to the TownePlace Suites hotel in Urbandale, Iowa, shortly before 11 a.m. after an employee discovered Gray's body in a room. There was no evidence of foul play, police told the newspaper, but the investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. Sepultura without the Cavalera brothers has been a tough sell for many despite the noble efforts of Andreas Kisser, Paolo, Jr., Derrick Green and current drummer John Dolabella. Fortunately for Kisser, his name commands respect not only in Sepultura, but also his side projects Sexoturica, Asesino and now Hail! the latter also featuring Tim “Ripper” Owens, Paul Bostaph and David Ellefson.
All of this leads the insanely busy Kisser to issue his debut solo project, a double album subdivided between electric and acoustic explorations, Hubris I & II. Heavy in one breath, quixotic and introspective in another, Andreas Kisser gives air to the more creative cages of his headspace with Hubris I & II. Though his sophisticated venture at times goes off on tangents, most of the journey is absorbing.
Other than “Eu Humano” and “The Forum” from Hubris I plus “Page” from Hubris II, Kisser strays as far away from Sepultura as he possibly can.

“You can’t consider yourself a hardcore kid or a metalhead without owning a Roadrunner album.” - Jamey Jasta, Hatebreed.
In 2004, Cees Wessels, founder and owner of Roadrunner Records, approached longtime A&R chief Monte Conner about creating a project and event to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the label. Roadrunner had humble beginnings, launching in 1980 under the name Roadracer, as an Amsterdam-based importer of U.S. metal albums to be repackaged for a European audience. Over the course of the two and a half decades that would follow, Roadrunner would evolve into one of the most respected outlets for metal and hard rock on a Global scale.
After launching the careers of bands such as Sepultura, Deicide, Slipknot, Mercyful Fate, Obituary, and Fear Factory, horror fans would soon feel the direct effect of the label. Long providing tracks for numerous films over the years, Roadrunner entered the Soundtrack realm...
