In June this year, Warner Bros forked out $2million to outbid Universal and Fox for director David Dobkin's script Arthur & Lancelot, described as a contemporary reimagining of the legend.
Just a month later, the studio put the $90million project on the fast track and set a March 15, 2013, release date.
Two other Arthurian projects were thought to have been shelved as a result, including Bryan Singer's remake of the 1981 classic Excalibur.
Singer has now confirmed this in an interview with SFX at the Sitges Film Festival. He said: "Yeah, unfortunately it is no longer going to happen. I was really enthused to do it. I'm a fan of John Boorman's movie and it was my intention to get it going after Jack The Giant Killer was completed.
"The project was with Warner Bros and what happened is that another King Arthur project was brought to them during that time.
