Germany’s UFA Group has brought in a senior Netflix exec, as part of a management re-org.
Natalie Clausen has been named COO of the Fremantle-owned German production giant, and will join its management board on February 19.
She was most recently Senior Production Manager for German-speaking countries, working on productions such as The Empress, Kleo and Liebskind. Prior to Netflix, she worked on big-ticket German shows such as Babylon Berlin and UFA shows Charité and Deutschland 89.
She’ll report to UFA CEO Sascha Schwingel, who took on his role in September. Schwingel replaced Nico Hofmann, who had been with the Generation War maker for more than 25 years.
Clearly, the restructuring didn’t end there, and the addition of Clausen will “provide valuable input to create even more space for creativity in a flexible, lean organization and with the clever use of technology,” according to Schwingel.

Ufa Fiction is partnering with actor-producer Tyron Ricketts and his Berlin-based Panthertainment to produce films and series for the global market focusing on stories from people of color.
Ufa Fiction producer Nataly Kudiabor will work with the Austrian-born Ricketts (right), one of Germany’s most successful black actors, on developing and overseeing projects Panthertainment acquires from directors and writers.
“Tyron and I have known each other for 20 years,” Kudiabor said. “As people of color, we have always dealt with the problem of on-screen representation. We want to give creative people – regardless of their origin or skin color – the opportunity to tell their own stories from their perspectives and we are convinced that we can reach a broad audience with them.”
She noted that “game changers” such as the films “Black Panther” and “Crazy Rich Asians” show how great the public’s need is for new narratives, which is likewise reflected...

COLOGNE, Germany -- Joachim Kosack, formerly a producer at German miniseries monolith Teamworx, has been named the new head of series production at Berlin-based channel Sat.1, the company announced Tuesday.
Kosack takes over April 1, replacing Dirk Eisfeld, who is leaving Sat.1 to work as an independent producer.
As a producer for Teamworx, Kosack scored a huge ratings hit with the historic mini "Stauffenberg" and a major flop with "Lost"-style castaway series "Verschollen", both for Sat.1 competitor RTL.
He cut his teeth as a writer and director for RTL hit soap "Good Times, Bad Times" and was chief writer and producer of RTL's women-in-prison drama "Hinter Gittern".
Kosack takes over as Sat.1's drama department is in a state of crisis. Such ambitious series as soccer-themed "Freunde fuer Immer", daily soap "Schmetterlinge im Bauch", and "Bis in die Spitzen", a local adaptation of BBC hit "Cutting It", have all flopped. Even Sat.1's hit telenovela "That's Life" has seen ratings slump following the exit of star Alexandra Neldel.
In a separate announcement, German pubcaster ARD extended the contract of Harald Schmidt, the country's top late-night host, until summer 2008.
