French director Olivier Dahan’s Grace Of Monaco will open the Cannes Film Festival. It will have its world premiere Wednesday, May 14, 2014, and will screen in Official Selection – out of competition category.
This comes on the heels that Us distributor the Weinstein Company would be moving the film from their 2014 slate due to a conflict between Harvey Weinstein and Dahan over final cut. Gaumont, which is distributing the film in France, recently changed the release date from January 29 to March 19, 2014. All the various moves makes sense today due to the announcement from Cannes.
Produced by Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, Uday Chopra and Arash Amel, who also wrote the screenplay, Grace Of Monaco will be released May 14 in France by Gaumont and in several cities around the world.
The opening ceremony will be broadcast to participating cinemas, with the cooperation of France’s Canal Plus.

Black Gold is a new movie which stars Antonio Banderas, Mark Strong, Liya Kebede, Tahar Rahim, and Slumdog Millionaire star, Frieda Pinto. It’s directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud (Seven Years in Tibet/Heaven’s Gate) and filming has just started filming in Qatar. The movie is an epic adventure adaptation of Hans Reusch’s classic novel “The Great Thirst”.
We’ve just been sent the first images from the movie which shows Banderas in costume and two fantastic shots of the desert with a Camel herd and horses charging. The movie is being produced by Doha Film Institute (Dfi) and Quinta Communications and that photos are via David Koskas and Quinta.
Casting: Tahar Rahim, after his award-winning, breakthrough performance in Jacques Audiard’s award winning “Un Prophete,” will play the lead role of Prince Auda in “Black Gold”, a hero torn between two fathers, two loves, two choices, one destiny.
