Two-month shoot saw the set catch fire and lead actor suffer injury during the final week.
Iron Sky: The Coming Race, a sequel to Nazis-on-the-Moon feature Iron Sky, has completed principal photography at Aed Studios, near Antwerp, Belgium.
The two-month shoot on the $19m Finland-Germany-Belgium co-production saw the set catch fire during a scene set in the cockpit of a spaceship and male lead Vladimir Burlakov dislocated his shoulder during a stunt rehearsal in the film week of filming.
Post-production will be split between Finland and Germany. The VFX will be handled by Oscar-winning German studio Pixomondo while the score will be composed next year with Slovenian industrial band Laibach.
The financing included crowdfunding, with close to $625,000 raised through IndieGoGo by more than 7,000 fans from 75 countries.
Director Timo Vuorensola said of completing the shoot: “The feeling is unreal. I set out to do an ambitious large-scale production and managed to finally wrap what I needed - and more...

A crowd-funding campaign has been launched for a sequel to Iron Sky.
Finnish director Timo Vuorensola has opened an Indiegogo page for people to pledge money towards a follow-up to his 2012 comic sci-fi action film.
The filmmaker first announced plans for a sequel in Cannes last month, and now hopes to raise $150,000 (£97,662) to start production.
In his pitch, he writes: "All you need to know at this point is... the original writing team is back together, laying down the story elements.
"Some of the actors will be coming back, some amazing new actors will be joining us, (industrial rock band) Laibach has promised to score the film and our VFX team is sharpening its teeth to blow your minds once again with visual effects that'll make you drool."
The $150,000 will not be for the film itself, but will go towards developing the screenplay and a five-minute promo to bring in further funding.

If you're the type to baulk at donating money to major studios or wealthy sitcom stars, perhaps you'll have more sympathy for the gonzo Finnish director Timo Vuorensola. The brains behind the Nazis-on-the-Moon craziness of Iron Sky announced development of a sequel at Cannes last month, and now hopes to raise $150,000 via Indiegogo to get the ball rolling. Check out Vuorensola's North Korea-baiting pitch video for Iron Sky: The Coming Race below. If you're new here, Iron Sky is probably pretty much exactly what you'd expect a film about Moon Nazis starring Udo Kier to be, although the sort of Strangelove tonal shift later on comes as something of a surprise. Vuorensola is keeping the plot direction of the new film secret for now, but says, "All you need to know at this point is... the original writing team is back together, laying down the story elements. Some of...

*spoiler alert! Director: Timo Vuorensola. Writers: Johanna Sinisalo (original story), Jarmo Puskala, Michael Kalesniko, and Timo Vuorensola. Cast: Julia Dietze, Christopher Kirby and Götz Otto. Nazis have fled to space! Who would have thunk it? In the movie Iron Sky, the last remaining survivors from this regiment fled to the dark side of the moon and spent the last 70 or so years plotting to take over Earth again. But nobody told them that World War II is over and life has gone forwards ... or maybe not. But now they want to come back, with no thanks to astronaut James Washington (Christopher Kirby). He found their moon base and that does not bode well for humanity. When this space explorer gets captured, the Nazi's plans are accelerated. That leads to some humourous nods to B movie culture and retro-a-go-go. The music is what sells this product. The driving magic by Slovenian...

Every once in a while, a film is released with such a ludicrous premise that you simply have to take note and Iron Sky is such a film. It is set at the end of WWII and follows various high-ranking Nazi officials setting up a well-equipped (and very smartly polished and decked-out) base on the moon. Jump forward to 2018 where the President of the United States (Stephanie Paul), a Sarah Palin lookalike, is up for re-election and to help her campaign, has Nasa send leaves astronaut/ male model James Washington (the charismatic and amusing Christopher Kirby) Nasa to the moon for their first landing in decades (her campaign poster reads: ‘Black to Space: Yes She Can’.). This leaves Washington at the mercy of the followers of the so called ‘Fourth Reich’. The Nazi brass, including Moon Fuehrer Wolfgang Kortzfleiche (cult legend Udo Kier), and his protoge-turned-rival Klaus Adler (Gatz Otto...

Let the Meteorblitzkrieg begin!
Iron Sky is finally here! Director Timo Vuorensola’s Finnish-German-Australian science fiction comedy, six years in the making, represents a collaborative approach from conception to marketing. Iron Sky milked the Internet for all it’s worth, building up a community of artists and fans who got involved one way or another including the kicking in of much of the film’s funding (these deep-pocket collaborators are listed in the credits). In a happy ending for dreamers everywhere, the result is a genuine success story for what is, after all, a small movie with a tighter-than-tight budget. But while the budget was necessarily low, the filmmaker’s ambition is unmistakably high and Iron Sky looks like a film that cost many many times its actual budget. If you enjoy your sci-fi with some satire and count Brazil, Dr. Strangelove, and Mars Attacks among your faves, do not...

Iron Sky Teaser 2 – The First Footage
The Story of Iron Sky
Towards the end of World War II the staff of SS officer Hans Kammler made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity. From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late ‘45 to found the military base Schwarze Sonne (Black Sun) on the dark side of the Moon. This base was to build a powerful invasion fleet and return to take over the Earth once the time was right.

Time for our yearly update on the progress of the Outer Space Nazi's. Some new footage, some bombastic music, and of course the obligatory swastika space station. Yes you are still excited about this (see our extensive archives on this project.) You know it to be true.

Towards the end of World War II, in 1945, the SS officer Hans Kammler's staff made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity research. From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late '45, and they founded the military base Schwarze Sonne (Black Sun) on the so-called dark side of the Moon. The purpose of this base was to build a powerful invasion fleet and return to take over the Earth once the time was right.
[A quick update on this from Cannes, where the director showed me an in-progress version of the trailer before it went online. First, for those of you skeptical whether the film will ever happen, they are going into production in September. This is a real movie, it's cast, they have the large majority of the budget and all of the cast in place. It's happening. Second, this particular footage comes from a test shoot originally intended to test their workflow from shooting on green screen through to finished product. It was originally intended for internal viewing only but came out so well that they decided to release it to the masses. Third, the 'Give Us Your Money' line at the end of the teaser isn't really a joke. To make up the small remaining shortfall in their budget, the producers are giving fans the chance to directly invest in the film, at minimum increments of one thousand Euros. Investment at different levels brings different benefits. Read the press release below and follow the links for more info. - Todd.]
