Friday Night Dinner is ten.
That’s ten years of crimble-crumble, humble bumbling, manic misunderstandings, and more lovely bits of squirrel than you could shake a dead fox at. For thirty-seven Friday nights across six glorious seasons the Goodman family – shirtless dad, Martin (Paul Ritter); long-suffering but ever hopeful mum, Jackie (Tamsin Greig), and their visiting prank-wanker sons Adam (Simon Bird) and Jonny (Tom Rosenthal) – served up a banquet of laughs to a hungry nation, ably assisted by chronically persistent, reality-adjacent next-door-neighbour, Jim (Mark Heap) and his faithful dog, Wilson, and a host of other regulars and monstrously memorable one-offs besides.
In celebration, then, of one of the most smartly-observed, perfectly-cast comedies of recent years, in chronological order, we count down ten of the show’s best.
The Sofabed Series 1, Episode 1
Most first episodes – nay entire first series – of new comedies can be scattergun. Maybe the characters haven’t quite coalesced,...

Another week has flown by in telly land and, as ever, the Tube Talk Q&A crew have spent our week wrestling with your latest questions, queries and quibbles.
Here's the payoff - insider info on Dallas, Hart of Dixie, Hello Ladies and much more!
Any update on the Hello Ladies special? I know it was axed but there was supposed to be a special on the way.
Ryan Jordana ain't wrong. Though it was cancelled after a single eight-episode run, Stephen Merchant's totes awks Us sitcom will return for a final one-off special to cap off the series.
As for when we'll get to see the finale in the UK, Sky Atlantic's hands are tied right now, since HBO is yet to confirm a Us air date for the special.
But we can confirm that after shooting throughout May, the final Hello Ladies is now in the editing...

Friday Night Dinner is back for its third series later this month... and we're more excited than ever after seeing this brand new exclusive trailer.
Yep, Jackie, Martin, Adam and Jonny are back and as ridiculous as ever - and that's without even mentioning just how bizarre neighbour Jim is these days. Take a look at the trailer below:
The new series has everything from surprise frozen foxes to unwelcome shower guests and Jonny's possibly unwise decision to get a tattoo.
Elsewhere, Jackie is horrified by Martin's painting of her - apparently because of its resemblance to Margaret Thatcher - and Adam finally has some luck with the ladies (but is also blackmailed by a little girl, so you win some, you lose some).
The new series will also see the return of Tracy-Ann Oberman as Auntie Val, Frances Cuka as Grandma and Harry Landis as her bad-tempered lover Mr Morris.

Character actor who was an ensemble player to the core
John Burgess, who has died of pancreatic cancer aged 77, was a versatile and highly intelligent character actor who appeared in several productions at the National Theatre in London. He joined the National in 2000 for Romeo and Juliet, directed by Tim Supple, and appeared in Remembrance of Things Past, co-adapted by Harold Pinter, with whom John enjoyed a friendship. He also performed in Trevor Nunn's The Relapse (2001) and The Alchemist (2006), but was injured out early in the run.
It was at the National that John and I collaborated joyously. I had much enjoyed working with this direct, drily humorous man back in 1978, when he was in my abandoned RSC Aldwych project Ice Cream (not to be confused with Caryl Churchill's later piece of the same name). So when Nick Hytner invited me to create a play for the National's...
