The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

While Mandy Moore may have us regularly bawling as Rebecca Pearson on NBC's This Is Us, it's also important to note that she has an iconic music career to remember. And shortly after releasing her first song in more than a decade, the "When I Wasn't Watching" singer is embracing her pop-star origins in a big way.
Variety reports that ABC has bought the pilot of a series with the working title '90s Popstar, inspired by Moore's early career as a singer. The show will follow a small-town Florida family who must adapt to their new reality when their daughter becomes a worldwide superstar almost overnight. The ordered pilot will be directed by The Amazing Spider-Man's Marc Webb, who will also serve as an executive producer with Moore, This Is Us showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, and Amanda Lasher, who is also the show's creator and writer.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Betsy,” episode seven of the second season of “The Bold Type,” which aired Tuesday, July 17.

When Amanda Lasher took over as showrunner for season two of The Bold Type (which premieres tonight), there was one particular plot line that baffled her as much as it did most of the shows' fans. "Oh yeah!" she said with a laugh when we asked about Jane's (Katie Stevens) shocking decision to leave Scarlett Magazine, the show's home base, and the writer job she had worked so hard for all season long. "Like, what?! She just walked out the door?!" Lasher hadn't worked on the series before taking the helm, so she had first experienced the season one finale as a fan. There's good news, bad news and weird news today out of Hollywood.
Let's start with the bad news because it's hard to fathom why more wasn't done to lure viewers to this now-canceled series.
In case you didn't know, Sweet/Vicious aired on MTV and followed the story of two "vigilantes," Jules and Ophelia, who fought back against injustice on their college campus.
A specific type of injustice. The type that happens to girls and isn't always followed up by campus authorities because the boys are excellent sportsmen, the girls were wearing the wrong outfits or it might be too hard to prove.
You know what I'm talking about. Sexual assault. That dirty little secret that gets swept under the rug far too often and for too many different reasons.
Jules and Ophelia made it their mission to get justice for those who suffered, and they weren't beyond suffering themselves.

If you’ve been missing Sydney Bristow, better book a ticket to Austin, TX. The Atx Television Festival announced today it will be hosting an “Alias” writers’ room reunion featuring many of the show’s long-time scribes, including Ken Olin, Lawrence Trilling, Sarah Caplan, Monica Breen, Jeff Pinkner, Andre Nemec, and Josh Appelbaum.
Creator J.J. Abrams has yet to be confirmed, but additional panelists will be announced at a later date. Last year, the Atx Festival hosted a writers’ room reunion for “The O.C.” that included creator Josh Schwartz.
Also announced this afternoon was a “Parks and Recreation” community screening. For the first five seasons of the festival, the Austin-based event celebrated an Austin-based show: “Friday Night Lights.” But last year marked the final tailgate party / community screening for the beloved series, and festival programmers found a more than fitting replacement in “Parks and Recreation.”

For the most part, the excellence of HBO’s “Togetherness” isn’t surprising. Co-creators Mark and Jay Duplass have a long track record with films they either wrote and directed themselves or supported in some way, Melanie Lynskey and Amanda Peet have lots of fine performances on their resumes, and even Mark Duplass himself has turned out to be an interesting and versatile actor as his career has evolved. The one unknown is the man who is in many ways the reason the show exists: co-star and co-creator Steve Zissis, a longtime friend and collaborator of the brothers Duplass who hasn’t had many prominent roles outside of their films. As Alex, a talented but underemployed actor crashing on his best friend’s couch, Zissis gets to be funny, charming, and at times heartbreaking over the course of this eight-episode first season. (Four episodes have aired so far; HBO recently ordered a second season.

Powerhouse movie producer Will Packer (Think Like A Man, About Last Night) has just sold his fourth series pitch under his company’s Universal Television deal, and it is an as-yet-untitled female buddy-cop show written by Amanda Lasher (Gossip Girl). With Lasher set to executive produce the show along with Packer, NBC have provided the creators with a script commitment.
Ccharacterizedas a “light” female cop show that centres on two Lapd homicide detectives trying to balance “messy” personal lives with their work on terrible crime scenes, the show seems to fall into a particular niche for the network that is currently poorly filled. While female-led drama – across the networks – boasts a vast array of strong characters, having those female characters lead a police-themed show as a pair is almost unheard of. Not since the days of Cagney And Lacey have we seen a cop show in which the female characters...
