David Beckwith, the veteran publicist whose crowning achievement was his work representing Elvis Presley’s Graceland museum since it opened more than four decades ago, has died. He was 67.
Beckwith died Friday in Phoenix after his hip replacement surgery was followed by sepsis, fellow publicist Lynn Weiss announced.
Beckwith for many years also represented Wolfgang Puck, his annual Governors Ball dinner at the Academy Awards and Spago. With the chef and agent Swifty Lazar, he arranged a fine dinner at Spago for industry heavyweights who were not at the Oscars, complete with a large-screen TV for them to watch the show.
When Presley’s home in Memphis, Tennessee, was first opened to the public in July 1982, Beckwith helped manage the 700-plus members of the media there for the opening news conference with Priscilla Presley. He continued his work with Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises until his death.

A Bronx Tale, Robert De Niro’s 1993 directorial debut, starred as the Tribeca Festival’s closing gala with the famed actor acknowledging that he never got asked to direct again following the film’s inauspicious box office debut.
“I was lucky to be able to make the movie. I made it the way I wanted to make it. I didn’t compromise at all. And I took longer to do [it] than was scheduled. And I had a lot of pressure…So I never got asked to do movies after that. That’s okay,” he said, sitting down with Chazz Palminteri in an interview with New Yorker editor David Remnick after a screening of the newly remastered film.
Remick reminded him he’d also directed The Good Shepherd. “I did The Good Shepherd. But that was another uphill battle,” De Niro said.

Former TV siren Angie Dickinson knew it was time to start dressing her age when legendary starmaker Irving Lazar berated her for sporting hot pants when she was 40 years old.
The 79 year old was already a movie pin-up when she went on to became a household name after playing a sexy detective in 1970s hit show Police Woman.
But Dickinson realised her time as a sex symbol was coming to an end when agent Lazar laughed at her for wearing sexy shorts.
She reveals on Piers Morgan Tonight, "I got brutally busted and I was about 40 and hot pants came out and I wore them to a nice affair and Irving Lazar said, 'You're too old to wear those'.
"And he was right, by the way. You know it fits you only until a certain time. Then it looks ludicrous... it was the truth. But I adjusted and left my pants on and did just fine. But it just made me aware that the hot part doesn't last that long."...
