From today through February 1, we're partnering with the My French Film Festival to show you ten recently released French features (first and second films) and ten French shorts. Presented by Unifrance, the festival invites you to award points to the films you like at the main site — and these points count, as six prizes will be awarded (three for features, three for shorts): the Internet Users Prize, Social Networks Prize and International Press Prize.
Outside of both competitions, we've also got a few extra presentations. The online festival was a hit around the world last year and you won't want to miss this second edition.
A few quick notes on the films, starting with the features:
Rebecca Zlotowski's Belle épine (Dear Prudence), winner of the prestigious Prix Louis Delluc for Best First Film, is "closer to a sobering character study than a classical youth film," finds Chris Cabin in Slant.

With Mémoires affectives, Francis Leclerc imposed himself as a new voice in Quebecois cinema. While the quiet metaphysical drama was far from being perfect, it was audacious and original, bringing a much needed breath of fresh air in the monotony of the local production.
For his second feature, Leclerc embraces a popular subgenre, the baseball movie, and follow all its basic rules. The result is a charming little film that has all the right elements, but simply doesn’t stand as anything new. A letdown ? More or less.

Sometimes I swear I’m just a tiny bit psychic. While walking through the Montreal streets with the lady-friend while attended Fantasia I commented on how I really needed to recruit someone to better cover Canadian film here in the pages of Twitch. Sure, making fun of the local industry is like shooting fish in a barrel but there are a lot of talented film makers up here - Quebec, in particular, has a very strong film culture - and I always feel a bit bad that we don’t do more to cover our local productions. And while reaching for examples of local folk who deserve some love the first name to pop to mind was Memoires Affectives director Francis Leclerc. His scripts are smart, he shoots gorgeous film, he handles his actors exceptionally well and in my mind he sits up there with C.R.A.Z.Y.
