Director: Philippe Gagnon.
Writers: Pierre Daudelin, Stéphane J. Bureau.
Set in 1665 New France, Le Poil de la Bête is one of those period pieces that tries to be something more than it is. There seems to be a love for the werewolf amongst international audiences even though this lycanthrope has no cultural heritage of its own (stories about shape-changing beasts can be found all around the globe).
The Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) comes to mind as a better film bearing somewhat similar motifs, and this movie succeeds in where Le Poil de la Bête fails. It's more focused in what matters—in establishing a pathos of the era that sets the tone for the entire movie.
Here, one can find a werewolf story with some comedy, allegory and commentary all mixed in. It takes a shot at aristocracy by showing that even they are not without their secrets. And the...

Celine Dion and her family posed for the cover of Canada’s famous weekly magazine 7 Jours. I love it. In fact, this might be my favorite Celine Dion Joint since her epic Larry King appearance a few years ago. What do we love about it? Here are 7 things: 1. Celine Dion is a goddess — this I believe we can all agree on — and as yet more proof, she sat for a magazine cover photo with no makeup on. And given that she is 11 months pregnant, we think she looks pretty beautiful. You know… for her. (Ed. Note: She was given her vocal chords by the same person that molded Mozart’s brain, so who gives a sh*t what she looks like? Annnyway…) 2. Ah!! Is that her son, Rene-Charles??? He’s such a little man now!! Though we do miss his luscious locks (which could have easily been turned into...

La ligne brisée might look like a film that only relies on the name of its stars. Obviously, after going through the film, we can see that David Boutin and Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge, who are both big stars in Quebec, manage to carry with strength the film on their shoulders. However, expect to see some weak points in the storyline.
Sébastien Messier (David Boutin) and Danny Demers (Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge) are two friends who have been in boxing for a while. When Danny comes back to Montreal, Sébastien is preparing for a championship fight. However, their reunion goes awry and breaks their friendship. Five years later, Sébastien has hit the rock bottom and Danny is the world champion. In order to settle a score with Danny, Sébastien will challenge him. Will Danny accept it?
For a labourer who hails from the television industry, Louis Choquette certainly has a promising future ahead of him.
