A successful formula in horror is this: keep making what sells, but when the black ink begins to turn red, it may be time to tweak that formula. Come to think of it, “tweaking” may be a solid descriptor for Werewolves on Wheels (1971); this is a film that boasts not only bikers and werewolves, but a satanic cult behind it all! Can three genres and subgenres bump uglies and still provide coherent entertainment? Coherence? No. Entertainment? Most assuredly.
One could start with the title, getting the ball rolling on marketing, and as with most low budget bonanzas, delivering something not quite as good as one’s imagination. But recalibrated for that 1970s nihilistic molasses, it rides just fine.
Released in late November, WoW did well on the drive-in circuit and escaped critics’ wrath as just another second (or third) billed programmer. After all, the biker subgenre had been on fire...

Born Paul Michael Levesque, you will likely know him as Hhh or Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Hell, you may know him as Jean-Paul Levesque or even the fear-inducing Terra Ryzing.
Whilst the on-screen Hhh has varied from a pompous blue blood to a cerebral assassin, from arrogantly bowing to wielding sledgehammers, there’s a whole lot more that’s gone on behind the scenes as the real life Levesque is a pivotal cog in the WWE machine.
Character-wise, Hunter has had legendary battles with the likes of The Rock, Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, The Undertaker, and, err, Duke “The Dumpster” Droese. And as the grappler’s star rose behind the scenes, so did the stories of politics and famed wrestler tales (because wrestlers always tell the truth, right?) of Hhh holding on to his spot a little too tightly.

There have been many portrayals of werewolves and other shapeshifting man/woman-beasts, in the media of film, but I can’t say there has been many memorable ones. With The Wolf Man (1941) Lon Chaney Jr. transformed into a werewolf at the full moon, and created one of the three most famous horror icons of the modern day. Werewolf fiction as since been an exceptionally diverse genre with ancient folkloric roots and manifold modern re-interpretations – from high shcool basketball players to American tourists hiking through the UK. Here is the list of my personal favourites.
#13- El aullido del diablo/ Howl of the Devil (1987)
Directed by: Paul Naschy
Paul Naschy, also known as Jacinto Molina Alvarez, was a Spanish movie actor, screenwriter, and director working primarily in horror films. His portrayals of numerous classic horror figures—the wolfman, the hunchback, Count Dracula, the mummy—have earned him recognition as the Spanish Lon Chaney.
