2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the release of the first Sharknado, and so far celebrations have included a screening on legendary movie host Joe Bob Briggs’ Shudder series The Last Drive-In and an all-day Sharknado franchise marathon on Syfy. If that wasn’t enough, The Asylum has now announced that they’ll be giving the movie a two-day theatrical re-release on August 15th and 16th! A new, Barbie-inspired poster has been created to promote this theatrical re-release, and you can check it out at the bottom of this article. The Hollywood Reporter got the exclusive first look at the poster.
Sharknado has been “fully remastered with hundreds of new special effects” for this event. The trailer for the re-release, which you can watch in the embed above, promises this version of the movie will deliver new kills, new thrills, more sharks, and more ‘nado.

Minutes after the Writers Guild of America declared it was on strike, members lit up social media with vows to stay strong as they prepare to hit the picket lines on Tuesday.
News of the strike, which takes effect later this evening, came late Monday after the guild’s negotiations with the AMPTP failed to reach an agreement on a new film and scripted TV contract. It’s the WGA’s first strike since the 100-day walkout of 2007-08.
Reaction on Twitter was swift. “Here we go,” wrote David Simon. “See you all on the pavement, my brothers and sisters.” He followed it with the hashtag #WGAstrong.
Some expressed fear but that was quickly replaced by resolve, as scribes encouraged fellow members to ignore the spin “that’s already coming out.”

Zombie Tidal Wave, a new Syfy original movie starring and produced by Ian Ziering (Sharknado), is set to premiere as part of Syfy’s shark-themed Off The Deep End weekend, Saturday, August 17 at 9 Pm.
The movie is the first project under the production pact between Ian Ziering’s I.Man Productions and Darby Parker’s Stronghold Entertainment. The feature stars Ziering and was directed by Ziering’s frequent collaborator Anthony C. Ferrante who helmed all six of Ziering’s Sharknado‘s film installments.
Ziering and Parker see this as the first of many installments where we follow lead Hunter Shaw (Ziering) as he contends with the ocean-borne outbreak which threatens his seaside island community, the rogue, veteran sailor leading a disparate group of locals to uncover the origins of the undead pandemic while battling the growing horde of infected before it can reach the mainland.

There is some satisfaction in learning just how Thunder Levin managed to get the screenwriting gig for Sharknado. First off it was fun to hear him say that it was one of the most ridiculous things he’d ever heard of, as it’s true, Sharknado is more of a ridiculous movie than anything and people around the world, fans even, would agree. But to hear him tell his story it took several small steps to get to the point that he was able to finally take on a project like Sharknado. Now granted, the movies are flat out silly and populated

So how long can The Asylum and Syfy's "Sharknado" franchise continue? All the way through a seventh film says the screenwriter. Ahead of the premiere of "Sharknado: The 4th Awakens" on July 31st, series screenwriter Thunder Levin tells ScreenRant that he has the stories worked out for three more sequels which will have an arc:
"As to whether we will see other creatures in 'nados in the future, I can't say for sure. Who knows if there will even be any more Sharknado movies? I guess it depends on the ratings. I have actually developed a story arc for Sharknado five through seven - for the next three movies - and I've submitted that to The Asylum and we'll see if they want to run with it or not and we'll see if Syfy wants to do anymore of these. If they do, I'm ready to go and there's no telling what you might see.

Five years since the last Sharknado attack, the deadly flying sharks are back in “Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens” — and this time they’re invading Sin City. The first official trailer for the SyFy made-for-tv film has just arrived, and it’s even more ridiculous that we expected.
The story picks up five years after the third film when Fin (Ian Ziering) and his family thought they were safe from the man-eating sharks. Everything changes when the killers return with a vengeance, this time in Las Vegas. And one thing that’s for sure, “what happens in Vegas, sure as hell won’t stay there.”

When Syfy debuted “Sharknado,” its ridiculous disaster-movie parody about sharks swept up in a tornado and attacking humans, it became a huge trending topic on social media. Its success led to two sequels, “Sharknado 2: The Second One” in 2014 and “Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!” premiering Wednesday. Screenwriter Thunder Levin penned all three movies, which he freely admits are “silly fun.” But he also says that their social media success is the result of a human desire to connect over shared experiences. “I think there’s this craving for shared communal experiences,” Levin told TheWrap. “And so I think ‘Sharknado’ gave us that.

It’s only fitting that a B-movie franchise geared toward generating social media interest for its endangered clutch of faded stars has kicked up the silliness for its third instalment. Syfy’s uber-successful Sharknado series is currently in production for the third outing that’s now garnered a suitably wacky subtitle. Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! is heading to the small screen this July, and network brass are behind it 100%.
In a statement accompanying the announcement Syfy’s Svp, Chris Regina said:
“We wanted this third title to boldly go where no shark movie has gone before. Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! embraces the larger-than-life irreverence that has made these movies so popular and entertaining.
Where Sharknado destroyed Los Angeles, and Sharknado 2 saw New York City subjected to the perils of a shark-infested weather incident, Sharknado 3 will unleash its wrath on the nation’s capital. Starting out in Washington D.

Outside of the swirling, shark-ridden storms that dominated the first two Sharknado movies, the franchise’s remaining attractions are its leading stars, Ian Ziering and Tara Reid. Their performances in SyFy’s biggest-ever movie series border on so-bad-they’re-good and have formed a large part of why fans went berserk watching them in peril. So, it should come as no surprise that the two have now signed on to reprise their roles in the third instalment, Sharknado 3.
Ziering and Reid’s resilient onscreen counterparts, Fin and April, won’t be the only returning players in the hugely-successful B-movie explosion. Back behind the camera for a third time is Anthony C. Ferrante, who will direct once again from a script by Thunder Levin. And by the sounds of it, it’s business as usual.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me a million times when I’m drunk with the allure of original titles like Ragin Cajun Redneck Gators, Chupacabra Vs. The Alamo and Piranhaconda, well, I’m not sure where the shame lies, but for the sake of my own battered ego, I’ll just blame it on the alcohol.
Unfortunately my Sharknado double feature experience had to be a completely sober one, because on the contrary, I’m a terrible writer when under the influence. Yes, I’m one of the virgin souls who avoided the original Sharknado like a typical Asylum produced plague, not because of my hatred of B-Movies, but my undying devotion to Proper cult classics. Sharknado is nothing but a gory poser – a wannabe insta-classic focused only on one ridiculous gimmick and boatloads of viral marketing. Do you know why the original film was such a success?...

I know I've thought it and said it and probably even written it, but there's something vaguely condescending about the notion that the "Sharknado" franchise is somehow review-proof or review-immune or however you'd prefer to view it. Just because something is designed to be a guilty pleasure doesn't mean that it can't achieve its goals with more or less craft. And just because something isn't necessarily meant to be taken seriously doesn't mean that those aspirations can't be achieved with more or less success. Because the desire to be taken seriously or viewed as legitimate is hardly an argument to be reviewed or acknowledged in the case of utter ineptitude. For example, look at CBS' "Under the Dome." It has a literary pedigree, some respectable creative auspices, a cast of familiar TV faces, a position of some prominence in CBS' lineup and a reputation as a summertime success, even if...

Get ready, kids! The "Sumnado of Sharknado" (as Syfy likes to call it) is officially upon us, and right now we have a quick Q&A with Sharknado 2: The Second One director Anthony C. Ferrante to help chum the waters of your anticipation.
Dread Central: Now, over half a year removed from the surprise pop culture quake Sharknado set off, what do you look back upon as being the best/worst aspects of it and the most surprising things to come out of it?
Anthony C. Ferrante: I’m still surprised that mainstream American embraced it. I remember watching the finished movie about three weeks before it aired. The movie is practically wall-to-wall VFX so this was the first time we saw everything completely together without missing slugs. <?i>
There were about three of us in the editing bay, and we were laughing with it and making fun of it.
