Wayne Levin, who was general counsel for Lionsgate for 17 years, resigned in 2017 after a subordinate accused him of physical and sexual abuse and workplace harassment, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Wendy Jaffe, who left the company in 2016, told the paper about a previously undisclosed sequence of events stretching for more than a decade. Levin’s departure was noted in a passing line in a recent regulatory filing, which said he resigned for “health and personal reasons.” His attorney said he had considered leaving “for personal and medical reasons” before the allegations, and former colleagues confirmed to the Journal that he had health problems.
The accusations were formally settled in December 2016, with Lionsgate paying Jaffe $2.5 million.

The former general counsel of Lionsgate Entertainment left the company amid allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse, according to a report Friday in the Wall Street Journal.
Wayne Levin resigned from the company in November of last year. A former subordinate, Wendy Jaffe, told the Journal that Levin mistreated her for more than a decade, including non-consensual sexual conduct in 2002 and 2003. Jaffe left the company in 2016, and received a $2.5 million settlement.
At the time, she signed a non-disclosure agreement. But she spoke about her experiences to the Journal because she alleged that the company had violated the agreement.
“I hoped leaving quietly would make the abuse stop but it didn’t,” Jaffe said in a statement to Variety. “So, I stood up for myself and other employees, and Lionsgate treats that as the problem rather than what its executives do. This has to stop, and that’s why I speaking out.

A subordinate of former Lionsgate Entertainment Corp. general counsel Wayne Levin has accused him of sexual harassment and abuse, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
Wendy Jaffe, a former Lionsgate executive vice president of legal affairs, told the Journal that Levin — who abruptly left the company last November — subjected her to a nonconsensual sexual contract.
She said she told CEO Jon Feltheimer for the first time in 2016 that Levin had spanked her, groped her and asked her to sit on his lap while negotiating her contract. That conversation with Feltheimer took place after Jaffe had left Lionsgate and was part of the settlement negotiations.
Levin disappeared from the corporation in November 2017, and Lionsgate made no announcement, but included a paragraph in regulatory filing that month that said he had resigned for “personal and medical reasons.” His attorney told the Journal that he had been considering resigning before the accusations surfaced...

A top Hollywood law firm is quietly but doggedly trying to sever ties with its New York owner in the wake of his arrest on financial fraud charges.
Santa Monica-based Dreier Stein, the 40-attorney outpost of Dreier Llp. and home to well-known entertainment litigator Stanton "Larry" Stein, spent the holidays in expedited meetings with potential new merger partners on both coasts.
The goal, Stein said, is to split from firm principal and accused swindler Marc Dreier before the end of January.
"We're listening to offers," said Stein, who reps such industry clients as Lionsgate, Jennifer Love Hewitt and David Duchovny. "We've done nothing wrong, and we need to get out from under the burden of Dreier."
Dreier, who opened the West Coast outpost of his 250-lawyer firm in January 2007 via a pricey deal with Stein's entertainment litigation and corporate boutique, has been held in a Manhattan jail since early December...
