It's been over a decade since the last Harry Potter movie came out in theaters in 2011. Sob if you need to, but the good news is that the actors are still friends with each other. Many of them even reunited on screen in Max's reunion special, "Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts," in 2022, which saw them reliving secret crushes on each other and bonding over the surreal experience of being a part of one of the biggest franchises in the world.
Over the years, the cast has also reunited off screen many times. Tom Felton, in particular, has been fabulously reliable about sharing updates on his friendships with cast members. He's posted proof of reunions all over Instagram, and even wrote about his friendships in his 2022 memoir "Beyond the Wand," recalling how he and Emma Watson first met during the auditioning process. Director Phil Barantini has become one of my go-to directors in terms of pure quality homegrown filmmaking. From my introduction to his work with Craig Fairbrass driven feature Villian, the short movie Seconds Out and the outrageously brilliant Stephen Graham powerhouse one shot, Boiling Point, I’m beginning to get the feeling we can group this man with some of our favourite British directors.
Whether we are spending time with an ageing con fresh out of prison, an alcoholic head chef on the busiest night of the year or Tim from The Office working the streets of Liverpool, we are sucked into these worlds because the stories are real, the performances are raw and a lot of the time they feel like they are happening right outside your front door.

Have you seen Boiling Point (2021)? The movie was shot in a 90-minutes continuous take (=real single shot) utilizing the Sony Venice Rialto, by the young (23) cinematographer Matthew Lewis. Furthermore, this outstanding 90-minutes single take was shot inside a crowded restaurant. This fact elevates the complexity even further. Boiling Point constitutes a mandatory reference for filmmakers.

In the Harry Potter movies, the evil villain Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) is obsessed with racial purity. It seems that magical ability is a genetic trait in the Wizarding World, and two magical parents typically have magical children. Occasionally, though, magical children will be born to non-magical -- or muggle -- parents. Voldemort sought to murder any children with muggle blood and leave only his wicked Death Eater cult standing. The films' dark themes of eugenics aren't too openly discussed in dialogue, however, and none of the Harry Potter characters draw a parallel between Voldemort and, say, Adolf Hitler. They're too busy evading capture and seeking magical Horcruxes to stop and talk.
One of Voldemort's disciples is a wicked witch named Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter), who is introduced while serving a hefty sentence in Azkaban prison. In the series' fifth film -- David Yates' "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix...

"Harry is spent. The crowd is destroying its throats calling Harry's name. Harry feels right with himself. He's down there, a new God who has found his calling. He holds up the Snitch and bellows 'I am a beautiful animal! I am a destroyer of worlds! I am Harry f***ing Potter!' And, dear reader, at last, the world was quiet."
The above passage comes from "Wizard People, Dear Reader," an unauthorized, parodic "book on tape" version of the movie "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," written and performed by comedian Brad Neely. The passage comes at the end of a match of Quidditch (which Neely mistakenly called Cribbage), a sport in Harry Potter's wizarding world that is, essentially, a midair version of rugby, played while riding flying broomsticks. Neely exaggerates the epic moment from "Sorcerer's Stone," of course, but in 2001, when Chris Columbus' film first came out, audiences...

Kitchen nightmares are all the rage these days – last year’s drama The Bear brought emotion and tender characterisation to the stressful setting of a deep-in-the-hole Chicago sandwich shop, while one-take-for-real movie Boiling Point got audiences hooked with its simmering tension and immersive shooting approach. And it’s been in the works for a little while now that Boiling Point is spinning onto the small screen in a BBC series that won’t continue the one-shot set-up, but will take viewers back into hell’s kitchen – and explore what happens next for Stephen Graham’s chaotic cook Andy.
The BBC has now confirmed that shooting on the series is underway – it’ll be a five-part drama with episodes running at one hour each. And while Graham’s Sous Chef Carly who’ll be at the centre of the show, now running her own restaurant with much of Andy’s team...

The boisterous and decidedly eccentric Scotsman, who began his career in comedy and theater, also commanded the screen in two James Bond films during an illustrious career on both sides of the Atlantic.
Coltrane was born Anthony Robert McMillan on March 30, 1950, in Glasgow, Scotland, as the son of a doctor and a teacher. After graduating from Glasgow Art School,...

The "Harry Potter" franchise of books and films has a frighteningly loyal fanbase. Even over 10 years after the final film of the series was released, fans still talk about and base their entire personalities around "Harry Potter." For them, the actors who brought their favorite story to the big screen are legends. But not all of those legends enjoyed being part of the franchise.
Alan Rickman did not count himself among the legions of "Potterheads," according to his recently revealed diary entries. Rickman, who portrayed the cold and mysterious Severus Snape in all eight of the "Harry Potter" movies, has never been afraid to criticize films in the past. An actor of his caliber is often given some leeway in being a bit rude about projects they see as beneath them. But to see how poorly he felt filming "Harry Potter," and how often he considered leaving, is a bit...

DaBaby’s New Orleans concert was reportedly cancelled due to low ticket sales.
On Tuesday (30 August), the Ticketmaster listing for the 30-year-old rapper’s show was deactivated.
“Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event,” a message on the website reads.
According to Nola.com, less than 500 people bought tickets to the concert, which was scheduled to take place on 2 September at the Smoothie King Centre arena, which has a capacity of 14,000.
The price of the tickets started at 35 (£30).
The Independent has contacted representatives for DaBaby and Ticketmaster for comment.
Last year, DaBaby – real name Jonathan Lyndale Kirk – became the subject of controversy after he made a series of homophobic comments during his set at the Rolling Loud festival in Miami.
He told the audience: “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two,...

Since Jan. 1, 2022, Sb 9, known as the “California Home Act,” is in effect throughout the state of California. The law allows homeowners to either build two 800-square-foot homes on their lot or divide their lot in two for a total of four homes on a formerly single-family plot. Boosters say it will address the state’s severe affordable housing shortage, create generational wealth and give more rental and ownership opportunities to people priced out of desirable neighborhoods.
“It’s a first small step toward correcting 50 years of mistakes in California cities, where they down-zoned all the property and all the urban areas to single-unit housing and unleashed a historic housing crisis that just gets worse by the year,” says Matthew Lewis, director of communications for California Yimby (which stands for “Yes in My Backyard”).

‘All Creatures Great and Small’ Review: A Gentle Classic in the Making Grows Even Deeper in Season 2
It’s a fundamental aim of most TV shows to fill the screen with characters who are recognizable and familiar yet still have ample room to grow. In the first episode of Season 2 of “All Creatures Great and Small,” Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) offers one sage bit of advice: “To conquer the ziggurat of life, one must climb the first step.” It’s a line so firmly in the senior veterinarian’s wheelhouse that it’s said with a knowing smile. Yet, the magic of this second season, premiering on PBS this week after airing on Channel 5 in the UK last fall, is that each detail is delivered with such care and confidence that it is unabashedly itself. The baby animals, the pining from afar, the sweeping green hills of Northern England all return as the cozy delights that made the show’s initial season one of the best...

“Harry Potter” fans have known for a long while now that Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the franchise, had a serious glow-up following his puberty years. But evidently, “The Late Late Show” host James Corden was unaware — at least until Tuesday night.
Before getting into the meat of the show, Corden admitted that he was exhausted, because he couldn’t sleep after doing a live TV interview at 4:30 a.m. So, Corden asked various members of his crew what they did the night before, in the hopes it was a better night than his, prompting several to admit that they watched HBO Max’s “Return to Hogwarts” reunion special. And with that, came a startling realization for all of them.
“You know that dude who played Neville Longbottom in the movies?” head writer Ian Karmel asked. “He’s like super handsome now.”

Roughly 10 minutes into HBO Max’s Harry Potter reunion special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, Ron Weasley actor Rupert Grint comments on the surreality of it all.
“It doesn’t feel like much time has passed. It doesn’t feel like we’ve earned a reunion yet.”
In true Weasley-ian fashion, Grint has intuitively identified something slightly off about this whole thing right from the get-go. Perhaps the Potter team hasn’t earned a reunion yet. Though the Warner Bros. series of films based on J.K. Rowling’s books began with Philosopher’s Stone in 2001, it ended just 10 years ago with Deathly Hallows Pt. 2. Since then, the Potter series has continued apace with two Fantastic Beasts prequel films and another scheduled for 2022. Warner’s franchising machine has also stayed humming, producing plenty of Harry Potter merchandise and media, with the biggest product, video game Hogwarts Legacy, set to premiere next year.

Like many people of my generation, I can recall the first time I read “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” and the first time I saw one of the movies in theaters. Never a die-hard fan, the movies and books were nevertheless a part of my childhood. But the entirety of the Harry Potter universe has changed for me, as it has for many, in the wake of series creator J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans comments, and time has caused us to question many of the decisions made in the films and novels.
Did I expect any of this to be touched on during HBO Max’s nearly two-hour reunion special? No. Warner Bros. has been fairly transparent that they still plan to work with Rowling, regardless of what she says. But I did hope that maybe, 20 years after the release of the first feature film, there might be a desire to look at something,...

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint weren’t yet teenagers when they took on the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley in the Wizarding World film series led off by director Chris Columbus. They were also all relative newcomers to the screen. As revealed in an early clip from the upcoming “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” on HBO Max, the then-young actors (now all in their 30s) spoke about the price of fame at such an early age — and how they contemplated quitting the film series when it got too close to home. (Via Insider.)
In the one-off special, which is intended to mark the 20th anniversary of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and now also marks the 10th anniversary of the last in the eight-film series, Grint recalls a moment during production when Watson brought up the possibility of quitting.
“You were considering pulling out.

It should become clear within a minute of pressing play on HBO Max’s “Harry Potter” 20th Anniversary special (“Return to Hogwarts”) whether you’re in or out for the nearly 2-hour special to come. The dreamy opening evokes the canny, warm charm of a Christmas commercial, to the familiar tune of John Williams’ iconic score (with an extra helping of jingle bells for good measure). The camera homes in on actors Emma Watson (who played Hermione Granger), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), and Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) enjoying a crisp winter’s day at their own quiet leisure before noticing envelopes bearing their names, telltale wax seals, and their precise locations where more typical addresses should be. As they open their invitations for the special, they play their parts with the same level of wide-eyed wonder that they brought to the first “Harry Potter” two decades ago.
