Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, hopefully these two names are a little familiar to you all. The two of them have been collaborating on James Bond scripts ever since they started with "The World Is Not Enough". Obviously the two were already signed up to pen "Bond 23", but thanks to MGM's financial woes that project is indefinitely postponed. So what else are they supposed to do, twiddle their thumbs and stare at each other? Of course not, these two are going to write despite the fate of "Bond 23". This is where Parkes MacDonald/Imagenation comes in. The company hired the two of them to pen an original action thriller that Walter Parkes and Michael Lieber thought of from their own heads. The story takes place among the nomadic Taureg tribes of West Africa, an area rich with uranium that has become a focal point for both energy companies and terrorist states.

In the absence of any news on the James Bond front, take this story as a substitute: Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who wrote Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, have been hired to write an original action thriller that might have vague Bond-like overtones. It also has a more serious, political bent, which could make for an interesting combination. THR says that Parkes MacDonald/Imagenation hired Purvis and Wade to write the script based on a story by Michael Lieber and Walter Parkes. As the trade says, The story takes place among the nomadic Tuareg tribes of West Africa, an area rich with uranium that has become a focal point for both energy companies and terrorist states. As you all know Bond 23 is currently in limbo, but screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade who wrote Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale have found a new film project to work on.
They've been hired by Parkes MacDonald/Imagenation to write an original action thriller based on an idea from Michael Lieber and Walter Parkes, who are also going to produce the film.
Here's a little rundown of the story:
The film takes place among the nomadic Taureg tribes of West Africa, an area rich with uranium that has become a focal point for both energy companies and terrorist states. An American anthropologist is thrust Into this geopolitical mess when he must travel back to the Sahara to help a former research subject who has been accused of a terrorist attack.
Parkes had this to say about the project:

Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are cooling their heels right now while MGM's financial woes keeps 007's license to kill on hold. So why not pick up another project, one that is thematically close to the great work they did on "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace."
Deadline reports that Purvis and Wade are set up with Parkes/McDonald and Imagenation to develop a script for a political action thriller in which an anthropologist travels to West Africa to clear the name of a friend who has been implicated in a terrorist attack. The story, which spawned with an idea from producer Michael Lieber -- himself a former cultural anthropologist -- involves Sahara West Africa's nomadic Taureg tribes and the uranium-rich lands through which they wander. There's no director, no casting, not even a title yet. But the story fits the particular talents of the writers, so I'm...
