When L.A. Confidential premiered in 1997 I was one of the few cinephiles that wasn't overcome with passion for it. I thought it too warm, actually. The happy(ish) ending threw me since most of the noir I was familiar with (not a wide sample I'm afraid) was much more nihilistic, rarely leaving the compromised heroes alive or free. It was the clear critical favorite in its year, though, so I've long wanted to reassess it and spend more time with it. I'm happy to report that I underestimated it the first time around. The screenplay with its hardboiled broad strokes dialogue and characterizations made more sense now that I'm more familiar with its tropes. But above all else it's a "wow" in execution from every department (but yes we're here to talk cinematography).

In This Episode…
Genevieve has Rebekah and Klaus tied up in separate parts of an abandoned hospital. Rebekah has been poisoned with werewolf venom, making her weak, unstable, and easy to torture. Klaus has been sedated by the giant bone dagger embedded in his abdomen. Genevieve assures Klaus that she is not there to hurt Klaus, and she proves this by cutting open his torso, reaching in, and removing the dagger. It hurts like hell but it allows Klaus to begin to heal. She has mixed up a concoction using Rebekah’s blood that will allow Klaus to see into Rebekah’s mind, and view the torture she is going through.
Rebekah has been brought to this hospital for a reason: it was the source of Genevieve’s distress with Rebekah,...

Multiple movies have been made about the disasters of September 11, 2001, most notably United 93 and World Trade Center, but so far the emphasis has been more on the actual events of the day as opposed to the aftermath. Fleur De Lis Film Studios is looking to break from that mould though with their upcoming film September Morn.
The Howard Cohen script is described as in the vein of 12 Angry Men, and will be directed by Bj Davis. We’ve included a further description of the film below.
September Morn will provide an insight into the findings of the 9/11 Commission, intertwined with provocative perspectives of expert architects and scientists, CIA and Department of Defense officials, Department of Homeland Security officials and concerned American citizens.
The Fleur De Lis site also claims that the film is supported by “numerous organizations, groups, associations, celebrities, government whistleblowers and transparency advocates.”

Babies love to cuddle, but that’s not always easy to do when you’re on-the-go. Fortunately, babywearing has become an increasingly popular way to keep your tot close and leave your hands free to run errands, etc.
But with so many slings on the market — from the ring version Mayim Bialik used with her son Fred, to the pouch Joely Fisher used with baby Olivia or the wrap Tisha Campbell-Martin chose for Ezekiel — finding the right one for you (and your baby!) is no easy feat.
To make things easier, we’ve created a guide to chic, functional options...

Since we've got a whole slew of new readers (thanks for joining us!) a little explanation. This is the 13th episode of the series "Best Pictures From the Outside In" in which Mike (GoatDog's Movies), Nathaniel (The Film Experience) and Nick (Nick's Flick Picks) compare Best Picture winners from either end of Oscar's timeline. We started by pitting the first (Wings, 1927) and the last (No Country For Old Men, 2007) against each other. In each subsequent episode we move one step forward in time and one step backward. We might throw in an extra episode pitting this year's winner (will it be The Curious Case of Benjamin Button or Slumdog Millionaire?) against... something. Eventually the series will end in the middle in the 1960s arguing about the comparative merits of In the Heat of the Night (1967) and Oliver! (1968). By the time that episode rolls around maybe nobody will be asking for...
