Hallelujah, holy shit! Bowen Yang is playing God.
After more than a decade in development, Aaron Jackson and Joshua Sharp’s “Fucking Identical Twins” — a beloved cult sketch show out of New York City’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theater — is finally reaching movie screens as A24’s “Dicks: The Musical.” With “Borat” legend Larry Charles as its director and a cast boasting not just Nathan Lane and Megan Mullally, but also Megan Thee Stallion, it’s a Second Coming for the underground musical even grander than Yang and his fellow Jackson/Sharp disciples could have dreamed.
“It’s been a long-ass friendship with those boys,” the “Saturday Night Live” breakout told IndieWire over Zoom. “My first memory of Aaron, he was in my college classroom coaching my improv group. He was already an established improviser at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Then, my first memory of Josh was meeting him at...

Netflix’s first batch of official photos from Zack Snyder’s science fiction epic Rebel Moon shows off the film’s key players. Inspired by Akira Kurosawa 1954 film Seven Samurai, Rebel Moon takes place in a distant part of the galaxy and follows Kora, a mysterious woman (played by Sofia Boutella) who’s tasked with saving a peaceful colony from being wiped out by an invading force.
The cast of the two-part epic includes Ed Skrein as Admiral Atticus Noble, a nefarious Imperium enforcer; Charlie Hunnam as Kai, a mercenary pilot whose Tawau-Class freighter will prove invaluable to Kora’s quest; Michiel Huisman as Gunnar, a Veldt farmer who knows little of the galaxy outside of his small, quiet corner of the galaxy; and Djimon Hounsou as General Titus, a hardened gladiator who once served the Imperium.

It’s a Good Place reunion over at Netflix as creator Mike Schur and former star Ted Danson reteam for an all-new comedy that has been classified as Untitled Mike Schur/Ted Danson series. In the series, Danson plays Charles, a retired man who gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a Private Investigator and goes on to become a mole in a secret investigation. Netflix has already ordered the series for an eight-episode first-season run. The show is based on the 2021 documentary The Mole Agent. (Credit: Justin Lubin / ©NBC / courtesy Everett Collection) Danson and Schur previously collaborated on The Good Place which ran for four seasons between 2016 and 2020. Danson memorably played demon Michael alongside costars Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto, and D’Arcy Carden. Schur also previously co-created NBC‘s other beloved series Parks and Recreation along with Rutherford Falls, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

With the Community movie coming to Peacock it’s a good time to revisit the six seasons before the movie. When you graduate from the series like the study group graduated Greendale, you may want more. Here are some other shows that offer their own kind of surreal, self-referential live-action comedy if you liked Community.

The medical comedy Scrubs predates Community on NBC. Narrated by new resident J.D. (Zach Braff), Scrubs could break the fourth wall at any time within J.D.’s head. These included fantasy sequences, which isn’t how Community broke the fourth wall, but allowed Scrubs to get surreal.
Scrubs did have its own movie within Sacred Heart Hospital though. J.D. was writing a horror script called Dr.

Over nine seasons of The Office, Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) went from Dunder Mifflin’s resident slacker to manager to entrepreneur. In those early seasons, it was funny to see the clever ways Jim found to minimize his work, and mess with Dwight (Rainn Wilson) who was super committed. Krasinski said Jim couldn’t keep doing mediocre work forever.

Many of The Office’s most memorable moments happen before the opening theme begins. Steve Carell joined the cast of The Office just as he was becoming a movie star. Anchorman had already come out and Carell was on the set of The 40-Year-Old Virgin between the pilot and filming the first season of The Office. That had a direct effect on Michael Scott’s initial appearance, Carell said.

Despite being a very bad manager, The Office kept Michael Scott (Steve Carell) around for seven seasons. To be fair, it wouldn’t have been very funny if Dunder Mifflin had a good boss. Michael was different from David Brent (Ricky Gervais) on the original British series. Despite his flaws, Carell insisted Michael was not a malicious person.

Carell was on a Television Critics Association panel for The Office in 2005. When reporters were first getting to know Michael, they wondered about some of his behavior. Carell was quick to clarify. The Office is now streaming on Peacock.
Steve Carell did not play ‘The Office’ manager Michael Scott as a bad guy
Especially in the early seasons of The Office, Michael’s poor decisions and behavior caused most of the employees’ conflicts. However, Carell recognized that it was a “road to hell paved with good intentions” situation.

In Paul Schrader’s 1980 erotic drama feature film “American Gigolo,” Julian Kaye (played by Richard Gere) is a cocky playboy-for-hire who is framed for a murder he didn’t commit. Showtime’s TV adaptation opens with the image of a very different man; 15 years removed and in prison for the crime, Julian (played by Jon Bernthal) is beaten down and broken. There are still remnants of the swanky persona he donned for clients and glossy Los Angeles life he lived — after all, the title theme is set to Blondie’s “Call Me” and features an easy riding Julian in his retro convertible — but Bernthal’s take on the character aims to undress his motivations and psyche, shedding the escort’s designer suits to uncover who Julian is and how he came to be.
“The movie is a great L.A. noir, but we knew nothing about Julian,” executive producer Jonathan Littman told TheWrap.

Jon Bernthal takes on the lead role in Showtime’s American Gigolo, a dramatic series that’s a reimagining of the R-rated film released in 1980 and starring Richard Gere. The new series moves the story forward to the present day but the show’s official trailer pays homage to the original movie with the inclusion of “Call Me” by Blondie from the film’s soundtrack.

In ABC's new comedy, Hall plays an up-and-coming rapper, Courtney Rose, who runs for office as a way to drum up publicity for his music career -- and we have a feeling the premiere of The Mayor will do the same for its star. Hall, who only has a handful of credits to his name, the most recent being on TBS' Search Party, draws other parallels to his character: He's charismatic, magnetic and a complete breath of fresh air.

Daily Dead recently spoke with actress Lin Shaye about what to expect from Insidious: Chapter 4, and now fans can see the return of demonologist Elise Rainier in the first photo from the anticipated sequel.
Featured on EW and unveiled by Universal Pictures, the first photo from Insidious: Chapter 4 features Rainier and Tessa Ferrer's (Extant, Excision) character Aubrey, and by the looks on their faces (with a lantern held high), they're in the midst of a powerful (and likely frightening) presence.

The only problem with The Good Place, so far, is that it’s such a wild concept that by the time it gets done establishing the largely unknown parameters of what’s going on… there’s no way to know what’s going on. How episodes are going to play out is anyone’s guess, which throws an unusual spin on figuring out if you want to keep watching.

The Purge: Anarchy is the follow-up to last year’s surprise hit The Purge (2013). The initial film made about twenty times its’ budget, in the Us alone, so a sequel was inevitable.
I must confess to not having seen The Purge until just this week, in order to prep for this latest installation, of what now appears to be a mini-franchise. The Purge: Anarchy and the original are marketed as horror films and rightfully so. However, they could just as well be termed science fiction as the future/alternate history element that both films rely on involve a fictional political event. That event being the rise of a political party called the New Founding Fathers whose rise to power is based upon the success of The Purge to the economy and stability of modern America. Unemployment drops dramatically. Crime is nearly eliminated. Except for the one night of the year.

The semi-finals of The Voice Season 2 is here and just a week away from finals, the competition is very close. With the competition so tight, viewers would expect the artists to fight for their lives but it seems only a few of them are really performing as though this were their last chance performance. It’s worth performing with that urgency every time. Levine said a few weeks ago that he was wondering why it took so long for the artists to perform their hearts out. But it didn’t keep up. This week, some artists slipped back into their old ways and were simply mediocre. But some artists who have not necessarily been fan favorites, standouts over the past few weeks shined. And we know that anything goes with The Voice results shows so tonight’s results should be nerve-wrecking as ever.
