- Philippe Léotard was born on August 28, 1940 in Nice, Alpes-Maritimes, France. He was an actor and composer, known for La balance (1982), The Day of the Jackal (1973) and Le juge Fayard dit Le Shériff (1977). He died on August 25, 2001 in Paris, France.

- He was noted for his wit and his frankness about his weakness for cocaine and alcohol, about which he published a book in 1997.

When his brother became minister of defence in 1993, he (Philippe) jokingly announced that he was the minister of "defonce" - a French word that means "getting stoned".
