What a gift! Party of Five alums Scott Wolf and Lacey Chabert reunite in this emotional gem shot in Braveheart country (and parts of Ireland). “They are the nicest folks I’ve ever met,” raves executive producer Andrew Gernhard of his stars, who play estranged siblings, Brad and Lindsay Morgan, trying to make nice after their mom (Fiona Bell) invites them to spend the holidays at a Scottish castle. (Credit: Martin Maguire/Hallmark Media) Before their bags are even unpacked, a major secret is revealed, and the spirit of the season has the Morgans hashing things out as they take in the sights (and sips!) of Scotland. Gernhard notes that this one’s a tad different from most Hallmark movies in that “it was more about a brother and sister getting back together,” rather than one of them finding love. But that’s in there too. “It’s Christmas,” he adds with a laugh.

Hello, dear readers! On Friday, March 11th, the 2022 SXSW Film Festival will be kicking off, and Daily Dead will be on the ground in Austin to check out all of this year’s genre projects. To give you a sense of all the horror and sci-fi awesomeness that will be playing during this year’s fest, I’ve put together this rundown of all the great genre (as well as a few genre-adjacent) offerings that will be featured over the next week or so at SXSW 2022. What’s even better is that for a few of these films (like Ti West’s X), you won’t have to wait long to see them if you aren’t able to check out the fest’s lineup yourself, so definitely make sure to keep an eye out for these films when they are released in the coming months.

On September 7, the unholy evil in holy guise is back in the horror thriller “The Nun,” the latest chapter stemming from James Wan’s “Conjuring” universe, with an entire film dedicated to the origin of her horrifying visage.
Audiences got their first frightful glimpse of the demonic Nun Valak, who plagued Lorraine Warren’s visions and filled her with dread in the horror hit “The Conjuring 2.” In “The Nun,” the epic battle of good vs. evil pits a priest with a dark history and a novitiate whose own past isn’t the only thing that haunts her against the blasphemy that is the Demon Nun.
The new fright-fest is directed by Corin Hardy (“The Hallow”) and produced by James Wan, and Peter Safran, the latter of whom has produced all the films in “The Conjuring” franchise.

In addition to packing stadiums and arenas around the world for teenage dream-like concerts featuring her own songs and a procession of big set pieces from a wedding march to snowfall and a balcony that flies out over the audience, Taylor Swift is turning heads on her current "Speak Now" tour by performing oddball covers.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines. Her flock mates, siblings Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson, formed Courtyard Hounds and released an underrated self-titled album last year, but Maines has been quiet since the Dixie Chicks’ 2006 album, “Taking the Long Way.” But she’s resurfaced with a remake of The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows.” Her version produced by Rick Rubin, will be featured in the March 20 series finale of HBO’s “Big Love.” As you may know, “Big Love” used the original as its opening credit theme for three seasons. iTunes will offer the...

Martie Maguire — one-half of the Court Yard Hounds and one-third of the Dixie Chicks — talks to Out.com about juggling her two bands. Hounds opens for The Eagles this summer but stresses that Dixie Chicks remains together.
The group has been through a lot since lead vocalist, Natalie Maines, told an audience: “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas.”
Maines’s words sent shock waves through the conservative country music community and the group was boycotted, dropped by sponsors, and fellow artists turned their noses up at the mention of their name.

With the Dixie Chicks on a longer than expected hiatus, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire had a choice--wait to reunite in the studio with Natalie Maines (who was in no hurry to record), or take a batch of songs that had been accumulating, dust them off, and try them on as a duo. Choosing the latter, Emily and Martie invented Court Yard Hounds, a rootsy alter ego that gave the duo a much needed creative outlet. "I was getting very restless and needed to be creative for my own sanity," wrote Emily in a press release. "At the same time, I was going through my divorce, so it was a very fertile ground for writing." That fertile ground takes on many locations, the first within a city where one can literally rise above it all. "I just look at the skyline--a...

Now that Natalie Maines is taking a hiatus from Dixie Chicks, Martie Maguire and Emily Robison decided to rename their band Court Yard Hounds. The name is a reference to Ian Livingstone's best-selling novel "City of Thieves", according to Rolling Stones.
Martie and Emily have started recording their first album and plan to release it in May. Emily will serve as the lead vocalist and team up with Jakob Dylan in a song called "See You in the Spring". This duo will make their debut performance at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin this March and launch a tour after the album is dropped.
Though they are now working as a duo, Martie is still looking forward for a reunion with Natalie someday. "I'm hoping she'll come out to one of our shows. Maybe it'll inspire her to want to do music again," she said.
