As fondly remembered as "Scrubs" is today, it was never a huge hit at the time it was airing. The ratings were certainly strong enough in the beginning, but by season 6 the viewership numbers were nearly a third of what they were at the show's height in season 2. NBC was done with the show for good in the shortened season 7, but luckily ABC came along and picked it up for an eighth season.
For the most part, "Scrubs" transitioned gracefully onto the new network. Most casual viewers bingeing the show today wouldn't even notice a difference between NBC "Scrubs" and ABC "Scrubs," but there were a few key changes. Mainly, they had to dial back the Todd (Robert Maschio).
"You know," Zach Braff said in a 2018 cast reunion interview, "when we moved from NBC to ABC, 'cause it's Disney, we were no longer allowed to show Rob in his banana hammock.

For most of its nine years on television (eight regular seasons and one semi-spinoff season), "Scrubs" was off-the-wall and surreal. The show, about the journeys of medical interns to full-fledged doctors, could be as nakedly emotional and touching as the best hospital dramas. It could also be incredibly silly. Much like "Ted Lasso," another show from creator Bill Lawrence, "Scrubs" is very sincere and warm-hearted, but it embraced the bizarre with relish, especially as the seasons went on.
The key to the "Scrubs" weirdness came in its main character, J.D. (Zach Braff), who also served as narrator for the show. J.D. is neurotic, constantly wondering in voiceover about whatever plights he and the other characters might be facing. From there, the show would move into J.D.'s fantasy sequences, loaded with elaborate visual gags. Sometimes, the fantasies would speak to the episode's thematic throughline. Other times, they...

He was 56 years old.

Lloyd played Sacred Heart’s lawyer Ted Buckland in all nine seasons of Scrubs and reprised the role on another Lawrence-created series, Cougar Town.
Lloyd was a frequent TV guest star, who also appeared as the Elaine-obsessed Ricky on Seinfeld.
He also had a two-season run as Dr. Albert Goldfine on Desperate Housewives.

Sam Lloyd, best known for his role as downtrodden lawyer Ted Buckland on “Scrubs,” has died. He was 56.
Lloyd was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor last year, which was revealed in a GoFuneMe campaign that was launched by “Scrubs” producer Tom Hobert and his wife.
Lloyd’s agent confirmed the news of his death. Vanessa Lloyd, Sam’s wife, released a statement saying, “Sam passed away peacefully at 10:30 on April 30, 2020 as a result of complications from lung cancer. Our family is devastated. It doesn’t feel real. It never will. It just feels like he will walk through the door.”
The statement continued, “The overwhelming outpouring of love and sharing your stories about working with or knowing Sam keeps his memory alive and our hearts strong. Sam loved his work. I want to continue his legacy, and hope to share some of the beautiful songs he was working...

It’s been almost nine years since Scrubs aired its finale episode on ABC, following a run that began at NBC way back in 2001. So when the all-star cast reconvened at Vulture Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday, the big question was, would they ever do a reboot?
The answer turned out to be both yes and no, with a negative for a TV revisit, but a ‘maybe’ for a film.
“I would do anything to not only get to work with not only this group, but the writers, and do it again,” creator Bill Lawrence said. “It was the best time in my life…you can never equal that experience. But that said, sometimes reboots, not all the time, but sometimes, they feel like a money grab.”
So while Lawrence isn’t keen on going down that road, he did concede there are some–somewhat unlikely–circumstances that might twist his arm.

Geek Culture is both spontaneously youthful and historically well heeled. New brands emerge frequently, like Boom! Studios Lumberjanes and The Backstagers, just written up in the New York Times. But brands like Batman and Captain America are more than 75 years old and provide a rich history for storytellers and collectors alike.

When Travis ran away to Hawaii on "Cougar Town" (Tue., 8:30 p.m. Et on ABC), he ran into Ted Buckland (Sam Lloyd) from "Scrubs." It was the same actor and the same character across the two Bill Lawrence shows, but Lloyd wasn't the only returning "Scrubs" alumnus in attendance at this week's "Cougar Town," though he was the only character.
Ted and his a cappella group showed up in Florida for a competition, bunking at Jules' place for a while. There he saw Ellie (Christa Miller) -- who looks a lot like Jordan Sullivan from his old job -- sitting next to Bobby's new girlfriend, played by Sarah Chalke -- who of course looks identical to Dr. Elliot Reid.
Suddenly, Ted started freaking out realizing that they women here looked like women he knew there, and then they started picking up their mannerisms. Suddenly, Ken Jenkins dropped in to...

No, "Cougar Town" is not just "Scrubs" in Florida with lots of wine. But the "Scrubs" reunion on Tuesday night's (March 13) episode was a lot, plus it's a shout-out to the "other" title this episode.
So Bobby has his first date with Angie, Travis' photography professor. Jules, in typical beast control mode (with her heart in the right place), tries to plan it all out perfectly, but naturally Bobby biffs at every turn. We aren't sure we've seen a worst first date on TV - dead manatees really iced that cake.
But in the end, a romantic moment is achieved and Bobby gets to kiss Angie - which is the way he reels a woman in, as he's the best kisser Jules has ever been with. Poor no. 7 Grayson.

"Cougar Town" is staging a "Scrubs" reunion on the cul-de-sac in next Tuesday's episode, titled "A One Story Town." Not only is Sarah Chalke back as Bobby's new love interest, but Ken Jenkins is there as Jules' dad, the Peons are there are on their way to sing at Disney World and Robert Maschio and Zach Braff are also guest starring in heretofore unknown roles.
We cannot wait to see it. To whet your appetite, ABC made these preview clips available - we've got the Peons singing, the group schemes to help Bobby's romantic life and poor Ted is hilariously haunted by his former "Scrubs" cohorts.
We can't wait to find out what The Todd and Jd's roles are on the show. "Cougar Town" airs Tuesday nights at 8:30 p.m. Et/Pt on ABC.

Get ready, "Scrubs" fans. Some familiar faces are stopping by the "Cougar Town" cul-de-sac. In the Tuesday, March 13 episode, Jules and the gang laugh operation "kiss-the-girl" to help Bobby romance Angie (guest star Sarah Chalke).
And she's not the only "Scrubs" cast member making an appearance. The Peons are passing through on their way to an audition at Disney World, while The Todd (Robert Maschio) is also at Jules' house - for what reason, we don't know. Zach Braff is also said to be stopping by, though we don't have any photographic proof yet, and Ken Jenkins, who plays Jules' father, will also appear.
We don't actually care in what capacity Braff and Maschio are dropping by - we loved us some "Scrubs," so this should be a lot of fun. We kind of wish Sarah Chalke could stick around as a love interest for Bobby - he certainly needs...

When Bill Lawrence was running "Scrubs," he had a bunch of actors from his previous show, "Spin City," appear as guest stars. Now that he's moved on to "Cougar Town," he's continued the cycle by having several former "Scrubs" stars do guest roles.
That list is about to grow: "Scrubs" star Zach Braff and semi-regular Robert Maschio, aka The Todd, are set to appear on "Cougar Town" this season. But that's not all: The episode in which they're guest-starring, TVLine reports, will be a full-blown "Scrubs" reunion that also features Sarah Chalke, Ken Jenkins and Sam Lloyd, in addition to "Ct" regular Christa Miller.
As previously reported, Chalke will have a recurring part on the show as Bobby's (Brian Van Holt) new girlfriend. Jenkins is reprising his role as Jules' (Courteney Cox) father, and Lloyd will continue his "Scrubs"-world crossover as Ted. Just who Braff and Maschio will be...

Chicago – With most TV on DVD releases now scheduled for August and September, how does one buyer work through all of the options? We’ve covered a number of the choices in recent weeks (and have a few more planned next week) along reviews of every new series, but it’s easy for some titles to fall through the cracks, especially for shows that might not have the cultural cachet they once did.

Chicago – With great comedies often being cancelled before their time, how many TV writers and producers look at the trajectory of “Scrubs” with awe? Zach Braff’s sitcom has become the show that wouldn’t die, avoiding one network’s cancellation axe to be rescued by another and now coming back for another season after it aired its impressive series finale. Like the undead, this version of “Scrubs” almost looks the same, but isn’t quite right.

Scrubs' ninth season premieres with a double episode on December 1st. We have already posted cast photos, promos and a few sneak peeks for the premiere, but not we have 8 sneak peeks from ABC to share with you. I love the one with Antonio Sabato Jr. You'll see what I mean.

The Todd probably won't high five on this. Robert Maschio, who is famous for playing The Todd on the sitcom "Scrubs," is being sued for allegedly getting drunk and choking a bartender at a Make-a-Wish event.
Tom Binder claims in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court that the 42-year-old actor assaulted him in a drunken rage at the charity event in Santa Monica, California last year.
Maschio allegedly became angry when the auction ended, screaming "You don't know who I am! I just raised ,000 for this organization, you little piece of s***!"
He then grabbed Binder "by the necktie and began choking him, lifting (him) partly off the ground and yelling even louder: 'Let's take this outside.'"...

After almost being cancelled several times on NBC, the network grim reaper finally caught up with the offbeat sitcom last May. But, as expected, ABC came to the rescue and took Scrubs over for season eight. Now, it looks like the doors of Sacred Heart will be closing for real this time... or will they?
Primarily seen through the eyes of intern-then-physician John "J.D." Dorian (Zach Braff), Scrubs centers around a group of egocentric doctors and nurses. Joining him at the hospital are best friend Chris Turk (Donald Faison), driven Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), head nurse Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes), abrasive Doctor Perry Cox (John McGinley), chief of medicine Doctor Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins), and the hospital's unnamed janitor (Neil Flynn). Others in the cast include Robert Maschio, Aloma Wright, Sam Lloyd, Christa Miller, Johnny Kastl, Travis Schuldt, Frank Encarnacao, Charles Chun, Mike Schwartz, and Michael Hobert.
