Joe B. Mauldin was born on July 8, 1940 in Lubbock, Texas, USA. He was married to Doris Jane Fulmer. He died on February 7, 2015 in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
Became a recording engineer at Gold Star Studios, the Los Angeles studio which became the "hit factory" for Phil Spector, Brian Wilson, and other major 1960s rock players.
Inducted into the West Texas Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum (2008), and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2012) (as a member of The Crickets).
He, Buddy Holly and Jerry Allison were awarded a star on the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee on April 22, 2007.
