John McCabe was born on April 21, 1939 in Huyton, Liverpool, England, UK. He was a composer, known for Fox Mystery Theater (1984), Volaverunt (1999) and Fear in the Night (1972). He was married to Monica Christine Smith and Hilary Tann. He died on February 13, 2015 in London, England, UK.
He studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music (now the Royal Northern) and in Munich.
Between 1974 and 1976, he recorded all of the Haydn sonatas for the Decca label; the discs have never gone out of print.
In the 1960s, he was pianist-in-residence at Cardiff University, after which he pursued a career as pianist and composer. He composed more than 200 works in a variety of forms.
