became the first freshman and first female editor of The South End
newspaper at Wayne State University in Detroit.
She wrote a piece on homeless children in Seattle, which inspired an
Academy Award-nominated documentary.
Until her death, McCall kept a 1970 letter written by then FBI director
J. Edgar Hoover that lists her as a threat to national security.
