Writer/director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1986 horror classic Witchboard (watch it Here) is getting the remake treatment couresty of director Chuck Russell, who was bringing us the likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and the remake of The Blob back in the days when Witchboard was gathering its earliest fans. The Witchboard remake doesn’t have a release date yet, but an early look trailer has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above!
According to Deadline, Russell intends to go beyond the original Witchboard IP “with a deeper storyline, high intensity scares and imaginative visuals”. As such, the screenplay he has written with Greg McKay sounds quite different from the original film. Here’s the synopsis: Emily, her fiancé Christian and a group of their friends open an organic café, refurbishing an old carriage house in New Orleans’ French Quarter. But...

Writer/director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1986 horror classic Witchboard (watch it Here) is one of my all-time favorites, and we’ve been hearing rumblings of a remake for a long time now. Going all the way back to the 2007, in fact. Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer director Mark Vadik was attached to write and direct the film in 2011, then in 2019 we heard that Chuck Russell – whose credits include A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Blob (1988), The Mask, Eraser, and The Scorpion King – had signed on to direct the film. And it looks like the Witchboard remake is actually going to happen with Russell at the helm. Deadline reports that Russell has even found the first cast member for the project: Jamie Campbell Bower, who caught a lot of attention last year for playing the villainous Vecna (pictured below) in season 4 of Stranger Things.

A remake of Witchboard from Dream Warriors and The Blob director Chuck Russell has come up several times over the years, but now it sounds like it’s finally happening.
Deadline reports today that Jamie Campbell Bower (“Stranger Things”) has joined the cast of Russell’s Witchboard, a remake of the same-named 1986 horror film.
“There is a tradition in cinema of great English actors that have the charisma we associate with stardom as well as the acting chops to truly be a chameleon, playing a variety of character types,” Russell said. “Jamie Campbell Bower is that kind of actor and his time is now.”
Deadline also notes, “The film shoots in May in Montreal and New Orleans.”
Russell will direct, and he also co-wrote the script with Greg McKay.

Night of the Demons, Witchboard, these are films that horror fans have grown up watching over and over again. So when Kevin Tenney, the director behind Witchboard and Night of the Demons, has a new film coming out, we here at Bdhr take notice. Kevin Tenney's latest effort, Brain Dead starring Joshua Benton, Sarah Grant Brendecke, David Crane and Andy Forrest, is a homage to the horror films of yesteryear. We also wanted to know what Kevin Tenney thought of the Night of the Demons remake starring Shannon Elizabeth (Scary Movie), Edward Furlong (Brainscan) and Monica Keena (Freddy vs. Jason) and in a cameo appearance Linnea Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead). Here's what he had to say about everything.
Who is Kevin Tenney and what are you all about?
I’m a father, a husband, and a filmmaker in that order. I was born in Hawaii to a military family.

Earlier this week we pointed you in the direction of the Fearsome Fango Film Show Line-Up for the upcoming Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors running April 17-19, 2009. Now that the full event schedule is live, we thought we'd point out a few "choice cuts" (i.e., those panels that we here at Dread Central are either moderating, participating in, or just generally think you shouldn't miss).
Note: All guests/events listed are tentative. More stars are still joining the fun at this late stage, so expect lots of surprises all weekend long. And for the first time ever, there will be a second track of programming that will take place concurrently with the main track on Saturday and Sunday!
