McLaren's brother, Charles, appeared in a series of anti-smoking
television commercials. The commercials feature photos of Wayne McLaren
from the "Marlboro Man" print advertisements (which Charles decryed as
methods to glamorize smoking and make it appealing to young
people)interspersed with video images of a whithered Wayne -- tubes
from oxygen and other machines attached to him -- lying in a hospital
bed shortly before his death. Charles intones, "How independent can you
really be?"
